No doubt you all heard by now the 17-minute track released this week by Bob Dylan. And mentioning Carl at 11:46 (yay! Warron Zevon, something something) A love/hate thing seems to be going on with the song, but I found it quite mesmerising. The conspiracy lyrics and the YT comments caused me some puzzlement. Q? WWG1WGA? Significance of 17? After some Googling, I sure wish I hadn't investigated those things - yikes!

Mesmerizing indeed.
Like most Dylan songs, there's a lot to unpack. But on first listen, it reminds me of "American Pie" -- a laundry list of references (some obvious, some obscure). But unlike McLean's song, which tells a linear story and gradually builds up steam until its joyous, cathartic climax, Dylan's new track never wavers from its mournful tone and dreamy, stream-of-consciousness narrative.
Never expected to hear Bob tip his hat to Carl in one of his songs. But I'm really glad he did. Carl deserves all the praise he can get.
For obvious reasons, it also reminds me of another recent Dylan song that pays tribute to a murdered icon.
