You don't hear much kazoo in rock music. But Pink Floyd use it in Corporal Clegg.

Queen's "Seaside Rendezvous" has an unusual instrumental break--in that it's not instrumental, but rather is the band vocally imitating a woodwind and brass jazz band.

The Velvet Underground's "Who Loves the Sun" has an instrumental break (mostly ... wordless vocals are in there) that sounds entirely out of left field. Just before the 2:00 mark.

Thunderclap Newman - Something in the Air
When this song would be played back in the late 60s I'd always switch it off; just didn't like it. Wasn't until many years later when the song came on over a loudspeaker and so had to finally hear the whole thing - with that jazzy piano section that comes out of nowhere - then back to the original melody.

There's a very cool psychedelic instrumental break in this '68 radio hit by Eric Burdon & The Animals: it features an audio montage of various battle sounds (like an aircraft doing an airstrike) and a full-on bagpipe orchestra. Starts at 2:48.
"Skyyyyyyyyy Pilot!"
