I have searched and found the meaning of life, and it is na. I just noticed your favourite album is Yes's Close to the Edge. During my brief stint in the music business ('69-'72) I had the great good fortune to be lent an acetate of CTTE (long before it was released) by a lovely man who was entrusted with writing out sheet music -- an unenviable task on this occasion! I should add I'm fascinated by non-BB choices as favourite album. iluvleniloud's The United States of America (see post #2 in this thread) is another. Stunning albums both.

My introduction to the music business was after graduating high school, I was hired by a Hollywood publisher to transcribe the songs on an upcoming album by the group “Them” called “Time Out! Time in for Them,” and after delivering the lead sheets, they never paid me.

I like quite a bit of prog, mainly Genesis and Yes.

I love Time and a Word, The Yes Album (that transition between "The Clap" and "Starship Trooper" is simply sensational) and CTTE. TAAW has some pretty unusual instrumentation for a Yes album, including winds and strings: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_and_a_Word

Eek, I'm not familiar with that one at all! I'm half familiar with their debut and Fragile but was daunted by the prospect of the two LPs of Tales... and stopped at the stupendous Close to the Edge. I didn't see how it could get any better than that anyway! But I'll give GFTO a spin...

Sure, it’s a bit noodly and meandering at times, but overall, it’s the same sound and ideas as Close To The Edge, expanded over four sides. Relayer’s also great. Anyway, to stop threadjacking this even more, I might create a thread where people can talk about prog.

I love the Beatles, but I haven't found any need to buy these box sets. If my local library gets them, I check them out and rip the tracks I want to keep to cd. So much of this stuff was already released on the Anthology albums in the 90's; if I want to hear the acoustic "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" or a alternate mix of "Penny Lane", I simply pull one of those albums out. The remixes haven't been mind blowing for me - maybe partly because the hearing in my left ear is severely damaged. I'm fine with just having the original mono and stereo versions. I recently listened to the remixed version of All Things Must Pass, and it was nice, but nothing to replace the original. There is so much music out there still to be discovered, it's kind of silly for me to keep buying the same albums over and over.
