Untuned guitar, wrong song. Watch the clips from same date, never heard him do a messier version of sloop etc. I love Al and would pay to see this show any day. But what the f*ck is going on here? Is he drunk/tired/unrehearsed?

Is it his guitar - maybe they rent equipment as they move along through the tour?

It’s nice getting to hear Al’s guitar clearly. In tune or not.
And once it’s cleared up what song they’re doing, it all sounds fine.
Isn’t that his usual white Strat?

Yes, I mentioned this in the other thread dedicated to his shows. He worked through it all but I suppose it could take a bit more rehearsal with the other members. Sometimes wasn't clear who was gonna sing the lead and who's going to sing the background, and sometimes Allen would sing his parts from the records and not necessarily the lead and the whole thing could use a little bit more cordination with the other players as to what parts are being assigned to whom. I think they did wouldn't it be nice just impromptu because of a request ,but they had not rehearsed it, so it had that party feel of informality, How to start and where to stop and that sort of thing.
But all of this was over ridden for me by Alan's tremendous charisma and his beautiful voice and the spirit of the Songs which transcended any of those details. he gave his heart and soul to the performance in a tremendous celebration of the story of The Beach Boys and their evolving career as artists, and the ultimate feeling was transcendental joy to witness living history. A little confusion between surfin and surfin safari because the feel and vibe and cords can be confusing at the top actually only added to the charm. If one wants to listen to the pendle tones & hear 25 scholarly musicians hitting every note in a historical re creation, then that is certainly something wonderful , but this aint that and it was not proposing to be.

I think my favorite part of Al's storytelling shows, is being able to clearly hear his guitar, warts and all. It really reveals what a overall tremendous guitarist Al is, and that so much of the BBs rhythm section sound, can be attributed to Al's playing. Even in these clips online, hearing him strum those chords has a certain authenticity.
Even though it's highly unlikely, I'd love to see Bruce do this type of show- stripped down, him sitting at the piano. He certainly has the piano playing chops.

In answer to Reggie Dunbar's question, what is going on here is that it was a laid-back casual show with just three band members in a rather small intimate venue with only one day of prior rehearsal. And I loved every minute of it.

Nice clip. It’s refreshing and impromptu— as it’s supposed to be, I guess. Alan sounds good (although nobody touches ML on these songs), and it’s good to hear him playing a solo.
You know, all these guys did their best in coping with being a part of this saga for nearly six decades. That Alan’s still around with us is a blessing. He seems to have aged gracefully, attaining a spiritual maturity, well-being, unpretentiousness and nonchalance that is endearing and far surpasses whatever issue he had with his band and bandmates in the past.

Finally got around to watching this - that was pretty good! Nothing to be embarrassed about.

That's charming! And Al's both kicking himself and having a good time with it - at least he didn't chuck a rock star hissy!
I love it when things don't run to plan, it reminds us the Gods are human - I remember going to see an Australian indie music legend playing a solo/guitar only gig in a smallish Melbourne venue 100 years ago - 1/4 of the way through, one of his strings broke, he looked in his case and didn't have a spare, so told everyone to go and grab a beer while he walked home (around the corner apparently) to get a new one!
