Obviously-people are fascinated by people they admire and are interested in seeing their triumphs and tragedies-but it is important to think about the number of times when you were younger that you were drunk or acted inappropriately (but there were no people filming or recording it)...Looking at it that way, Carl had way less embarrassing moments in his public life then the average person has in theirs...As far as I can tell other then a handful of shows in 1978 he went on and did a stellar show and kept any of his "bad behavior" out of the public eye.

Which is quite something if you consider that he was only fourteen when the BBs started and had to perform in public all through his teens and twenties-a time when everyone has their share of inappropriate or wild behavior

Exactly - everyone has slumps and struggle to get themselves back-on-track. I did not see that performance in Australia but did see one with Dennis carried off the stage, and that only comes from demons that had overcome him. And alcohol and substance abuse was so stigmatized back then with really poor care, and misunderstood. Overall - the big BB picture has been wonderful.

Maybe they should put this out on cd - it seems to be Carl's most popular performance. This particular one has been out on CD since 1994. And there are others....

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... No, of course not. But it should be, right? I mean, if there's one thing we all need to remember Carl Wilson for, it's being drunk and stoned onstage in Australia, 1978. Seriously, I don't understand some people's obsession with Carl's worst ever performance. Aren't there hundreds of great performances from the man to enjoy?

Simplicity itself - this period (fall 1977-winter 1978) was pretty much the only time Carl let the reins go.

It reminds me of how Dick Van Dyke always gets criticized for his terrible cockney accent in Mary Poppins. Half a century later, this universally beloved entertainer still has to address the subject in interviews. It's because there is literally no other crime for which he can be indicted.

As bad as the two commonly heard tracks are(GOK and GB), the entire show is a trainwreck. The version of Darlin', in particular. Jay - there is usually something redeemable even in train-wreck shows - at least that has been my experience - you can't let a bad moment ruin a whole experience. Some great shows have awful audiences so it is like pulling teeth for entertainers - but they have a good close or encore and everyone gets to leave with a smile. Have you heard the whole show?

Probably in chunks? I did see them in that era. I was just happy to get that annual show!

Shall disagree with previous user Mr. Burgerstand about "Mary Poppins" reply - it isn't criminal what Mr. Dyke did in film. It's puzzling anybody could tell him about it in interviews frequently.

He wasn't saying it was or is. He's saying the general public still give him crap for it, unnecessarily.
