Stayed with John for a few days during my first US trip in fall 1981: this will tell you the kind of guy he was - when my flight from San Francisco to Sacramento vanished (because the carrier went bust), he drove down to pick me up. A great loss to BB fandom, as was Les.

When I first heard "Smiley Smile" during a sleepless night. Obviously I'd known about "Good Vibrations" for a while and I had finally grown fond of "Pet Sounds", so I figured that it would be time to learn about the Smile Sessions. I decided to listen to "Smiley Smile" first to not let my expectations get to me.
After spending a little bit with Smiley, I went and downloaded soniclovenoize's "SMiLE '67" mix, and that's how both ended up as my some of favorite albums of all time

Also on the first cassettes there was cant wait too long.hypnotic melody. Smilish dreamy track. That was a revelation only read about it in Brad Elliott's Surf's Up book.
