I really like the Christmas season and a lot of the music. My wife gets really tired of the music because so much is 800 versions of standards. Saw Patty and her longtime Scandal band mate Keith in Milwaukee last month and it prompted me to buy this under the radar album of a few years ago. This is a great song IMO.
Anyone else have a favorite Christmas song that most of us have never heard....?

In the late 90s, Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple and Rainbow formed his Renaissance / folk group Blackmore's Night. Their 2006 Winter Carols album has become one of my favorite Christmas albums. Here's one of the few original songs on the album

Nice pick KDS. What is the woman's name that is singing? Her name is Candice Night, the wife of guitarist Ritchie Blackmore (hence the name Blackmore's Night). I think she's recently released some solo material outside of the group. And she's the only singer Ritchie Blackmore has ever gotten along with.

Good holiday thread, Paul JB. Being NRBQ & Zooey/She&Him fan, here's NRBQ-penned carol & She&Him's interestingly arranged cover:
Which do you like? I - each but prefer NRBQ due to its charming Christmasy music.

I posted this in a different thread back at the end of May, but I guess it's more seasonal to include it here, a lovely fragile interpretation of the classic Christmas Carol by Scottish outfit The Pearlfishers. It's a polyphonic rendition containing at one point four different songs and tunes. Not difficult to see where their inspiration comes from:

BBfan..I prefer the She & Him version. It sounds like the original by NRBQ was also Brian Wilson influenced. Ward and Deschanel are obviously fans of Brian & the Boys.

NRBQ - the interviews I read/seen - mentioned BBs/Brian *single* time. Precisely Terry Adams, keyboard player/ songwriter stated he admires Brian Wilson & the musical talent but he emphasized NRBQ isn't influenced big time by Beach Boys when interviewer detected what you detected, that there's influence. He told that he really appreciates the comparison but the band doesn't really aim to get inspired by BBs/ Brian. If there's influence, it *isn't* deliberate. NRBQ is huge Sun Ra fan, rock & roll, jazz, country records & many different music styles. Nevertheless, their late gread drummer, team player Tom Ardolino's huge BBs fan, mad about the band we like. But, you did say truth - NRBQ's "Christmas Wish" did get the Brian "signatures".

I always enjoyed a lesser known song by Nat “King” Cole called The Little Boy That Santa Claus Forgot. It was recorded around 1954. It always pangs at my heart.
