I remember it well. The shot was used for the cover of Bay Area Music Magazine (BAM), 12/13/1991. Good article!

I guess it was easier to say that the SI tapes were stolen

I had this poster on the wall in my bedroom, right next to KISS, Sparks, and Jim Morrison. Now it's being advertised as "rare". I paid about $10.00 for it. Ebay is selling it for $75.00. It's buried somewhere in my basement - with four thumbtack holes and probably folded...

Not long ago - I found a box (a gift box) with treasures just like that poster from my old BB bedroom shrine! My kids had sports teams on their walls...is that any different?

Brian sure looks bummed..."Man, I wish my doctor would've let me be on this record!" Interesting that Jeff also got one!

In '88 (the year of the suit shoot), it was jet black.

You are right-I have both magazines but we are doing some work on the house and I cannot check my files-as you know ordinarily I am never wrong 😀 Good one, Ian! I'm gonna use the "fix the house too busy to fact check" excuse next time I'm wrong. Guy named Robert Matheu was the photographer for this article, I think. Author Bill Holdship is a big fan and praised Sweet Insanity in both BAM and MOJO magazines. Interestingly. he was asked to sign a declaration that he'd write nothing "negative" after an interview with Mike Love in June 1993 just before the Mike/Brian court case. Holdship refused, saying it was his right to form any opinion he wished once he'd conducted the interview. He got his way and presented both sides of the case.

I remember bell bottom pants being really popular circa 1977-78, but Brian Wilson had some of most bell bottom-est pants I've ever seen!

Could the guy talking to Brian be Rick Edgil, former editor of ESQ, San Diego police officer, and one of the main guys who put on the Beach Boys ESQ conventions in 1990 and 1992? Not sure what the guy standing behind him in the white shirt is doing though........

I don't know who was in charge of Brian's appearance during the Landy years - Alexandra Morgan maybe? - but he was impeccably groomed and dressed for personal appearances.

During the Landy years, first I saw Brian with Landy's aid Scott Steinberg, then I saw Landy standing with him on the side of the stage at a Beach Boys concert, then Landy accompanied Brian to one of the ESQ conventions, then I saw Surf Nazi Kevin Leslie with him during the book signings. I never saw Alexandria but that doesn't mean she wasn't there.

Among the many things that stood out when I met Brian during his book signing tour in October 1991 was how great he looked. He had on black jeans, a white silk shirt, and a black leather jacket. His hair was combed/styled perfectly including a touch of blond highlights. He looked like a star!

Love the bottom photo. I guess Dennis ripped up the ‘you gotta dress like a dork’ memo!

Brian with Los Angels DJ Charlie Tuna! Concerning those pants - wow - far out and solid, I guess.
