Who said anything about indoor shows ? Not me. There are still at least one listed and un-cancelled. I do think that outdoor is the safest way around this. But before long the weather will dictate what goes on.

Unsurprisingly the live performance sounds better than the studio version.
Kind of amazing that Mike would get the band to rehearse a new song with so few shows going ahead, but there we are.

But before long the weather will dictate what goes on. Hmm....i do recall doing a couple Christmas shows a dozen or so years ago, OUTDOORS. I had to stop after every couple songs to warm my hands. Right now, though, i am desperate. Maybe i can get some shows booked playing in rain storms, hurricanes, and tornadoes. I understand how much Mike misses performing, because i'm a completely unknown musician, regularly performing to crowds of 50 and below and i miss it terribly.

Yes - much to my surprise I have gone to BB shows (indoors) in snow boots. And inside it becomes summer with the music. Virtual is a nice nod but does not do it for me. There is no audience reaction and response in real time. It is like canned spaghetti. Nothing to anticipate-get a whiff fresh sauce (or leftover which is better) splattering on the stove - an imprecise, hot, fun, mess that live shows are - warts, and all. You have the right attitude. It gets lost in translation. And - I'll never forget the first time I saw that band (as an early teen) walk onstage with their striped shirts on - it was not a dream and not TV. Complete with broken guitar strings - Dennis throwing out his drumsticks to the audience, girls throwing up notes with their phone numbers almost nonchalantly, as they would passing notes in class. It is real life, added to the music. And so gleeful - regardless of whom you follow or like as a musician or performer. Yes, you have the correct perspective.

The Wallingford show was, of course, originally postponed from the spring. There was an odd way of the cancellation - the stuff was left up until it was close to show time. What is crazy - is that this theater might have been a good dry-run for indoors just because of its seating capacity of 4,600. Plenty of space and it is leveled (the ancient Greek/Roman coliseum type model) sort of in a semi-circular style - and had been a theater-in-the-round. The stage is elevated from the front so the band would be built-in distanced from the audience. There are a lot of drivers for this. First, is ventilation systems. Some of the restaurants I have gone to have integrated UV lights which have been used in hospital emergency rooms for decades against TB. They are coming into greater use, now. They (we) are all safer outdoors for now.

We have no idea of the factors considered, but I'm guessing financial has to be up there with medical. In this current climate, one size definitely doesn't fit all.

Sorry about that, AGD -- you're right. I had the correct link, but the wrong venue. (That's the trouble with copy and paste.)

Oddly, Mike's website still has the Winstar date listed.
The Sept. 30 Pensacola FL date is not listed there, even though the venue indicates it's still going forward.

Checking out the 9/30 venue... nothing about CoVid-19 unless you use the search function. No mention of masks, social distancing... nothing. Utter, utter madness.

Looks like the 9/30 Pensacola FL gig might have been reconsidered: still listed on the venue's site, but if you go to TicketBastard, you get -
"Sorry, tickets are currently not available. Please check back later."
The other four remaining 2020 shows are still going ahead, for now.
Edit 11.12pm: belay that, tickets are on sale again.

I'm not sure what to make of the Sept. 30 date -- the venue still has it listed, but Mike's website doesn't. In the meantime, there are some new dates on his site, including three drive-in shows next month.
2020 Oct. 23 -- Ventura, CA -- Ventura County Fairgrounds, Concerts in Your Car drive-in show Oct. 24 -- Del Mar, CA -- Del Mar Fairgrounds, Concerts in Your Car drive-in show Oct. 25 -- Phoenix, AZ -- Arizona State Fairgrounds, Concerts in Your Car drive-in show
2021 May 11 -- Austin, TX -- Bass Concert Hall

From the Del Mar gig website:
"This drive-in concert series will create a new entertainment experience - all from the comfort and safety of your own vehicle
THE BEACH BOYS - - DEL MAR 8 PM - CONCERTS IN YOUR CAR - - LIVE ON STAGE
The show will include a visual light show, multi-media entertainment and a video screens. The combination of an extra high 360 degree stage and screens will ensure a good viewing experience for everyone.
Sound will come through your car stereo, like a traditional Drive-In Theater on your FM radio. There will not be any sound from the stage. If your sounds system is not sufficient, we recommend bringing a FM radio."

And finally, on the Saenger Theatre website:
"Due to the current state of the pandemic and for the safety of the attendees, the organizer for this event is in the process of rescheduling The Beach Boys. Once the new date has been selected, you will get a notification from Ticketmaster."
Also, the 11/22 Spirit River Casino gig (itself a rescheduled date) has been further postponed.
