Many thanks for posting Wata.
Loving that new version of Waves - does sound like a remix of one of those Postcard… bonus tracks but brings new elements to the game. Cool.
Jenny Clover is a bit more laboured to my ears but Al’s vocal is sweet; great to have.
Anyone know if these tracks are available physically? Could they appear on the Deluxe edition of Postcard… that was on the cards? Speaking of which, isn’t that due by now?

Yeah, not sure about that version of waves - that pumpin’ accordionesque sound is a bit weird, not sure if it’s supposed to be reminiscent of a 50’s style arrangement.
The vocal track does sound like a lift from the version of Waves on my Postcard CD, so perhaps this is a remix incorporating some new instrumental overdubs.
Jenny/Jennifer Clover - wow, this is pretty good even in this “rough” format. As they say, you gotta take the rough with the smooth - this is a McCartney type ballad, some vague melody similarities to Here, There & Everywhere and solid piano work - the string intro and outro is similar in style to the arrangements on Nick Drake’s Five Leaves Left, harmonically a teeny bit like Thoughts of Mary Jane. Really dignified stuff and well executed - I hope they don’t trowel it on in the final version and go the less is more route.
The Middle Of Nowhere - Matt sounds fantastic, like a meld of Al & Brian’s styles while definitely carving his own vocal identity. It’s a good MOR tune, well arrranged and I think something I would expect to hear on a USA radio station, while flying down Highway 1 overlooking the etc etc. Cool lyrics too.

Re: The Middle of Nowhere - Fabulous! Matt sounds great. Very nice to hear his regular voice, as opposed to having to mimic the sound of the classic BW falsetto.

I don’t get what the problem with the Waves of Love version is. It may not be the best song or best recording ever, but it improves on what’s been previously heard. Carl’s vocal sounded off— it is fixed here. Al’s voice was cool but too strained in the other versions; this vocal is more comfortable and is better suited to the song’s spirit. It departs from some of the half-baked cliches of the other versions. This is not the best song ever, but I don’t think you can do much more with it. I think this is the definitive and final version.

The accordion. That's the problem. Can it (the accordion) be extracted? I readily admit knowing very little about this stuff and rely on the many experts, here. Did Mr. Desper join this forum?

Was waves of love one of the songs that they were working on for the radio album?

I was half joking. It's a little annoying, but I would never seriously suggest someones art be changed by a third party.

Last I heard the mods were hoping to fix the issue.

Good to hear all of these songs...
I actually like this version of Waves of Love. This song seems to get slightly better with each mix as I didn't like it at all when Al first issued a version several years ago.
Jenny Clover is sweet and Al still sounds pretty strong.
Middle of Nowhere makes me wish that Al and his sons had completed the Jardine album that was mooted at one point. It's not a classic track, but a decent MOR effort.

Yeah, it has that AOR/MOR feel of 85 - though way better than most of that!

Larry Dvoskin... Long ago I hunted him down to get an answer to a question a poster called Cat Collins had asked on the Capitol Board, about whether there was any truth in the rumour that Dvoskin had collaborated with The Beach Boys in some way. Larry promptly registered there as "todayisthefuture" and posted the following:
Hi Cat, John, BB Fans,
Hope you are all "Getting Around" with "Good Vibrations", "Wouldn't It Be Nice" on this beautiful July Day, but "God Only Knows" its hard sometimes!
Larry Dvoskin here, to answer the question.
The answer- Al Jardine.
I am one of his songwriting partners. In early 90's when Carl Wilson was still alive, there was exploration into reuniting the group & Brian and recording a new album with producer Don Was.
I went to Al's glorious ranch and we wrote and demo'd a bunch of songs= "Waves Of Love", "Good Good Feelings", "Wish", "Jennifer Clover" ( named after Al's cow and co-written with his wonderful wife- Mary Ann Jardine).
At that time- Al's eldest son "Matt Jardine" was touring with the band replacing Brian Wilson's voice ( no one could replace Brian himself) by singing all those really high falsetto notes.
So Al, Matt, Carl Wilson, and maybe Bruce I recall- at one point recorded a bunch of songs...which are unreleased yet, but are really high quality songs.
To this day the friendship and creative relationship continues.
A closing personal insight to share with the forum is this:
Buddha overheard musicians one day talking about a stringed instrument. They said " if the string is too loose it wont play, if too tight it breaks"...he left the forest to go into the world and proclaimed "The middle path is the road of enlightenment".
The Beach Boys are like a string instrument...Their singing combination, and personas. Wound tight- to produce a beautiful, colorful sound for the world to enjoy. Painful, uncomfortable for the musicians themselves, to be wound so tightly...which has often gone over the line to drug abuse, members leaving, and those pesky lawsuits.
It has a higher, cosmic meaning and brought us all a world of original, one of a kind music which lifts up our hearts and spirits with joy.
Hope in some small way this info/insight has been of service to you.
Kindest Regards, Larry Dvoskin

Yes clicking on those links just takes you to the page that says the sound cannot be found. I just did pick up the new postcard from California with the bonus track and there is waves of love on there and I don't know enough about the history of the recording to determine what's what, but I'm curious if there is now or is ever going to be a completely authorized beach boy version of that
