Dunno why this suddenly popped into my head, and I can't even recall which forum, except that the background was white... anyhoo, the subject under discussion was Britpop and my sole contribution was the observation that where Oasis were concerned, I preferred my Beatles straight. Which, to my utter bemusement, prompted some f***wit to accuse me of homophobia. My explanation that by "straight" I meant "undiluted" was, naturally, ignored in a swirl of righteous indignation. I preferred something "straight", ergo I was clearly a homophobe. You really couldn't make this shit up.

Language evolves with new connotations and that was an outrage to make a statement like that knowing there are other contexts for "straight." It demonstrates their ignorance. I am sick of the language police.

I recall an argument when discussing a Brian Wilson solo album with an overzealous Brianista, who pretty much said that Brian's music was beyond criticism.
That's probably not even the dumbest, but certainly one of the most absurd.

That's probably not even the dumbest, but certainly one of the most absurd. That is where the term "fan" turns into "fanatic." It crosses the line. I bet Brian would agree. None of us is perfect. He has tweaked his own work so he is self-critical - a very healthy trait. We can all improve. How many sessions for Good Vibrations? Healthy self-criticism.

In 50+ plus years, it's impossible for any artist to release only great material. It's blind hero worship if you pretend every album with his name on it is Pet Sounds II. Real fans can like an artist and still be objective.

Well, one dumb thing that happened to me...recently getting slammed by a mod for restating something that was in a published book (and not refuted - if it weren't true, lawsuits would have Shirley been flying!) because it didn't agree with his own personal conclusions. That's when I remembered why I don't visit that forum often.
And when I was slammed by a certain mad genius's wife in 2003 for not ejaculating buckets over a concert that was very shoddy, ill-rehearsed, and not promoted at all.

I got banned for supposedly mis-gendering the spelling of a person's name, which my spelling was incorrect and not their preferred spelling but my spelling like their spelling was also gender neutral.
Supposedly I intentionally did this, imitating some unknown person from the past, to insult said person in some posts in which I was actually publicly praising them.
I was supposed to have been warned multiple times for my double non-offense by this person but it wasn't me and there were no warnings from them or anyone else. I never got the chance to apologize for misspelling their name (not mis-gendering the spelling of their name) or the chance to explain I was the wrong guy regarding the insulting and warnings.
Not that it matters anymore.

Oh...a former Facebook user once slammed me for using the phrase "fame whore" on a BB forum (same forum I was referring to before), accusing me of slut shaming. Uhh...that's not what "fame whore" means, bubsy.

I remember on one of the old boards there was this guy who wouldn't shut up about how 50 Cent was the "new Beatles".

Edit: ironically my hubris has provided you with a possible "Dumbest thing that ever happened to me on a BB forum" of the very kind I complained about. Again, I apologize.
