Nice compilation Mikie!
The live ‘89 version is too quick; not fond of kids choir versions. Too much synth on the original dates it.
I think this version was in the L&M movie, anyway it treats the song with the necessary sensitivity, and ticks all the boxes for me.

For me, the original is BOSS, as it is the motherlode for the many wonderful versions that have come since.
It was a pretty special achievement given the physical mental, legal and familial morass Brian was in the middle of and made a lot of sense back in the day (that means it sounded ok) - I also liked the video they released with it; maybe simplistic or throw together to some, but to me it seemed quite humble and respectful of the hard work Brian put into the track.
I’m also quite partial to the version they slipped onto NPP royale with cheese edition.

Best version is the 2001 (not 2009) live one with the Boys Choir of Harlem.

I prefer the IJWMFTT version. It has the stripped down arrangement that's done live with with the middle section in tact.

I love the ukulele version, even if she leaves out a few chords and gets one or two words wrong. Works better for me than any of Brian's own versions.

For me, the tearjerkers are the Libera/Kennedy Center Honors version and the "Little Kids Rock" version with the L.A. inner city kids, recorded at the old Western Studio 3. Very cool.

My favorite version was from a benefit tv show. I can't remember what it was for. Hurricane Katrina? I remember that a member of Brian's band was one of the victims.

My favorite version was from a benefit tv show. I can't remember what it was for. Hurricane Katrina? I remember that a member of Brian's band was one of the victims. In January 2005, Brian performed Love & Mercy as part of "Tsunami Aid: A Concert of Hope" which aired on NBC for the victims of the 2004 tidal wave in Indonesia. Markus Sandlund, a cello player who joined Brian's Smile tour and recorded on "Brian Wilson Presents Smile", was killed during the tsunami.
In September 2005, Brian and his band appeared in Los Angeles on the ReAct Now: Music & Relief concert, which was a relief concert for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The performance included both "Love and Mercy" and his new song at the time, "Walking Down The Path of Life." In November 2005, a version of Love and Mercy in medley with "Walking Down the Path of Life", was issued as a CD for $10. A special Wilson-autographed edition was also available for purchase at $50. The proceeds from the single were put towards helping the victims of Hurricane Katrina. This same version of the song was issued again as a bonus track on the deluxe edition of "No Pier Pressure".

Do you think McCartney's live version of "Something" on the uke is better than the Beatles' original version? Haven't listened to that, probably would prefer it, but not especially for the Ukulele. The later Beatles recordings are a bit too sterile for my liking soundwise.
I liked the live version of "Good Timing" played on the SMiLE performances in 2004 WAY better than the studio version. Made me aware of how beautiful the song actually is. Don't like the original.
