"Luau" wasn't written by the band... Capitol weren't chasing them (nobody was).

Well, to be fair, the story didn't say that the guys wrote "Luau," but that they "came up with" it...could have been an oversimplification of, perhaps, "they looked through a handful of songs that could be used for the B-side, and found that perhaps the best one would be a song called 'Luau.'" And it also didn't say anything about Capitol chasing them -- it said "the big time" was chasing them. The way the piece was written, I interpreted it as "fame was ahead, and it just so happened that Capitol lost two of its biggest artists. The Beach Boys' signing with Capitol came at just the right time."
The way I see it, this is a story that likely had a lot of details that were edited out for time before it aired. (BTW, keep in mind that this was a radio story, so if you notice that "Murry" is misspelled, this was meant to be listened to, not read.)
