I hope they add a few more shows, I’d be so in for this whole show. Sounds killer.

Dead God, please let them play in Pennsylvania! "Dead God", eh? That doesn't sound too good. Last I heard, he's still around. And so is Rock & Roll.

Well, you know, I skipped Brian's shows the last coupla years. But this will probably be a good incentive for me to go in September. I commented negatively two days ago regarding the quality of his performance recently, and I'm sure the shows will be hit or miss on this tour. I would expect Matt to sing most of the lead to Surf's Up and probably Till I Die. And they already do Feel Flows. It'll be interesting to see what else they have up their sleeves and I'm looking forward to seeing the setlists.
Brian has said more than once that Friends is his favorite album (among others). But I believe Friends really is one of his favorites. Surprised if the Surf's Up album is a favorite of his - it was recorded during a dark period of his life.

I'm thinking that Darian may have had something to do with influencing this Brian Wilson tour with the Zombies. Didn't he play a few dates with them a few years ago? Probably knows them pretty well. I guess since all members of the Zombies are on this tour that Darian won't be needed in their band as before?
A year late with the 50th Anniversary of the Friends album but who's counting.

According to Darian in the RS piece, he'll be playing with both bands.

The article says check the BW and Zombies web sites for complete details...well...didn't see anything about the pre-sale, and Ticketbastard doesn't even list the show I want to go to (Milwaukee).
I'm surprised about the Surf's Up focus myself. Last time I saw Brian & co. do "Surf's Up," Brian explicitly stated that he doesn't like the song. Al said, "What are you talking about, Brian? It's from Smile. It's one of the greatest pieces of music ever written!" And when they actually did the song, Brian sang it with an annoyed eyeroll the whole damn time. Even his vocal delivery sounded kind of...I dunno...sarcastic. He clearly had a bug up his butt about "Surf's Up" that night!
Prediction: both of Al's folksy songs from the album.

I saw Brian in Philly on the NPP Tour in 2015, and he made a comment before Surf's Up along the lines of "This is the longest song ever, it's 20 minutes long. It's Surf's Up," but he still did a good job with the song, despite rushing a few of the vocal lines.

OK.... so now on paper it looks like a show most of us would want to see. In reality I don't think it's hit and miss anymore with Brian. A lot of songs from Friends and Surf's Up count me in, Don't know much about the Zombie's but I like the familiar stuff so count me in, Brian being wheeled onto the stage and either unable or unwilling to perform anymore count me out. This is maddening. I'm literally 5 miles from the Milwaukee venue listed and I've skipped his last few shows in my area because of the downhill performances. People sitting next to me in 2009 were feeling sorry for Brian and wondering what he was doing up there....and that was when by today's standards he was doing great.
I'm venting. My heart says go but my brain says forget it...or maybe the other way around.

I'll be at the Milwaukee show despite me just telling a friend that after seeing Brian at least 15 times over the last 20 years I would probably never go see him again...the Friends/Surf's Up deal is enough for me to take a chance...The Zombies with with all four surviving members put it way over the top for me. Spend a week with Odyssey & Oracle, that might help you make a decision.

If it extends to the UK I might well take a punt with that kind of potential set list. That said, with Blondie on board, I’d be even more excited for a Holland-themed show.

Since it's a "double-headliner" tour, and the Zombies are performing an entire album plus other songs, I'd expect Brian to cram in no more than 2 or 3 songs from both Friends and Surf's Up, since he's billed as also doing "all the hits". So, expect something akin to his BeachLife gig from the other night, minus a couple of those songs to make room for 4 or 5 new ones. Anything extra is gravy (or desert, if you prefer)!

Yeah, don't let the expectations get too high; he's not playing the entire Friends and Surf's Up albums. I would of course rather he play one or the other album in its entirety to appease us hard-cores, like he did with Pet Sounds & Smile, but I doubt very much that's going to happen again. You gotta fit in the greatest hits for the average fan to make everyone happy.

No doubt about that. In any case we know it sure as hell was not Brian's idea. The fact that the last few years things have really gone downhill, and it's gotten to the point that many of the diehard fans have been taking a pass, has once again forced the hand of Brian's management to do something to bring an audience. I'm not being so negative for the sake of it...that's not me....but I'd have rather seen Al and the family/friends type thing with the Zombie's, or the Wondermints with the Zombies. I know what we will get from Brian and it's just wrong. And please let's not kid ourselves and think ...well maybe with new material from Friends Brian will be engaged...been there done that with the Christmas tour and we all know what that was like. Elsewhere, I'd have been banned from the board by now with these outrageous statements. Just go or don't but shut up Paul,...I get it.

Interesting to see they dropped the meet and greets...I assume Brian finally put his foot down on these? Probably bodes well for the actual concerts that he doesn't do them.

I should go see the Zombies one of these days, while I still have the chance. Although I am starting to lean towards thinking Odyssey and Oracle is an overrated album - the same way I feel about the Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society and Pet Sounds. Although in the case of the Beach Boys and Kinks, it's because I feel they have many other albums just as good or nearly as good. I don't know of any other Zombies album, just the singles.
I have no desire to see Brian trotted out there again for another go-round of the hits, though. Blondie means nothing to me either way; Al still sounds great, and if he ever brings his solo show to my area, I will go.

A year late with the 50th Anniversary of the Friends album but who's counting. Actually the *only* shows Darian does with the Zombies are the Odessey and Oracle shows, which this is, and which are the ones that have all the surviving Zombies. Basically there are two touring Zombies lineups. The one that tours most of the time is a five-piece band has only Rod Argent (keyboards) and Colin Blunstone (vocals) from the original lineup. When they do Odessey and Oracle tours the standard touring band plays the first half, and they bring on Chris White (bass) and Hugh Grundy (drums), the other two surviving original members, for the Odessey & Oracle section. They try to perform Odessey entirely with the original instrumentation, including using Mellotrons and so on rather than synths (this is going from my memory of seeing one of those shows a decade ago, and might not be 100% accurate), so they need Darian there to play the second keyboard on songs with both Mellotron and piano, and to thicken out the vocal harmonies -- they have eight or nine people on stage in total. When they're not doing an Odessey tour, they just don't do the songs with two keyboard parts. I wonder if, on this tour, someone might put in a word to get the Zombies to do "Only With You"? Colin Blunstone did a rather lovely solo version of that in the 70s. I *really* hope this tour comes to the UK -- both Zombies lineups are phenomenal (though I've not seen them since bass player Jim Rodford died) and I would be excited to see Brian finally doing something other than Pet Sounds...
