Which do you like? Which do you dislike? Who's the best interviewer? Who's the worst interviewer? Favorite interview/ segment? Etc.
To begin, best interviewers by me would be David Letterman (80s), Jay Leno, Seth Meyers, Ken Boxer, Lizabeth Starr with Wally Kennedy of "AM Philadelphia" & last but not least, funny & friendly chap Jimmy Fallon and goofy, charming & witty Arlene Francis of "What's My Line?" fame (big favorite, still) & "Home", 50s TV program about housing in which, for example, she interviewed Jackie Kennedy.

The other favorite interviewer, in addition to the mentioned above, is Jon Stewart. What about you, folks?

In my humble but worthy opinion, Fallon is the worst thing that ever happened to late night TV. Sure, his impersonations are pretty good, but all his other "humor" is not funny in the least. And his political stuff (I have to apologize for bringing this up) is the same joke over and over. Yea! I miss Leno, Letterman, and Conan.....

How about talk shows featuring The BB's? Sure. What's your favorite? Would be nice to hear you. To me, it's Brian at Mike Douglas interview. He's good interviewer, btw. & he sang/ played songs to boot. Somebody said few years back that there used to be youtube featuring Al singing "TM Song". IIRC, at Mike Douglas as well. Pity it isn't back in youtube...or, is it? The other fave is 60s clips with Dick Clark & Andy Williams. Good chaps, they.

I think it matters, if the talk show host is a musician in their own right, such as Andy Williams or Mike Douglas because those people really know music and can appreciate the work of the BB's. Mike Douglas was a singer himself and really liked The Beach Boys and so he had them on a lot more than other talk show personalties. Or, Bob Hope and Jack Benny who integrated a comedy skit for California Girls. They were early to the TV entertainment scene and broadcasting in Black & White when people were getting TV sets in their homes. Joan Rivers was a comedian who did some talk show stuff or subbed in for absent hosts until she had her own show later on. There is a lot of historical context when you look at Ed Sullivan who had a variety show, or Dick Clark whose specialty was music and not as a general talk show personality. I can't lump them all in together because the formats of the shows were very diverse. What you can trace are the songs that they performed.

Give that guy a punch to the gut, and bring out the hook. Fallon has ruined late night. He is a one-note... ( don't even want to call him a performer).
Letterman was my favorite, even better than Johnny. You could actually laugh along with his back and forth with his guests. He was expert at making folks comfortable and opening up. I miss his show, and especially his Christmas shows with Darlene Love - something I almost have a complete collection of on VHS. Many of them were on Christmas Eve. A tradition, now gone. Then there was the Top Ten Spot - I have the Beach Boys one. That might be on youtube, some of them are. Another tradition was the Jay (Thomas) and David throw footballs at the holiday pizza - with meatball Christmas tree topper.
David had many "not to be missed" moments.

I thought he was awful on SNL, his movie career pretty much bombed out, and now he's a late night host? Wow, our standards for comedy have really fallen in the last couple decades.

I mainly stick to the BB on topic stuff or other music and I will never discuss/argue politics on a message board but this clip of Carson is truth. I stopped watching late night shows years and years ago because they all started preaching their political views more and more and it's so bad today they openly force their guests to do the same. (I don't watch but I end up hearing about it) There is no talent from these hosts. It's all about themselves....the host....the guests are an afterthought. Even years ago on Leno you would sit through more than half the show and his stupid skits/jokes and such until he squeezed in a song by someone you liked right before the end. The entire concept is no longer viable with the changes that have occurred in media. Carson was not a great interviewer either, but his skill was in getting the guest to just start rolling with something and more times than not it was entertaining.

2 filledeplage - Yep, different eras. I listed random favorite interviews. What's your favorite BBs interviews? Or favorite talk show episodes featuring BBs? Do tell.

A talk show host or "personality" is not much more than a facilitator. The guests are the stars. They only do a mini introduction, and short interview. Most slots are under 10 minutes. Some are not even that long. I liked Bob Hope, Mike Douglas, Andy Williams, Ed Sullivan and many others. David Frost had a cool one, as well. At the end of this, you can hear Dennis say that they would bring up on stage in a wheelchair, so much did he love being a Beach Boy.

All past my bedtime! Same here! I guess I forgot to mention that. But I am still subjected to a lot of lame clips (especial of Fallon) on GMA in the mornings before I go to work. I guess it's some kind of recap segment from the night before. I can live without that, but I like to catch some news while I'm getting ready.

What people here think about Joan Rivers? Is she good interviewer? Bad? I didn't decide yet. In youtube & elsewhere, she's mainly praised. But there's still many who say they dislike her "brand of humor" & questions she asked. Discuss.

Joan Rivers didn't really take off in Britain. You'd have to get the Americans' opinions. But, comedians are more "of their time" than music is. See the end of this classic clip. Hmm, not really funny, at least to me 🤨

filledeplage is American, she said very clearly that Joan Rivers is funny. You got it 100% right - I did aim the question at Americans. But, she's been guest few times at Graham Norton's. British get her humor well. What YOU indidvidually think about her? Interested in individual views. I really like that clip & laugh at it. BBs = funny.

@bbf, I have no opinion on Joan Rivers and I'm not making one The BBs in that clip are fun to watch. The most hilarious thing is Dennis' bright orange romper suit. Well, if you want to spend time looking at old comedy, there is the following (truncated here, but longer in other places): And there is also the Beatles version of the BB's clip above (also kinda painful):

Re: Joan Rivers : ...& I'm not making you to make one, silly gal. What's "hilarious" about Dennis' orange suit? Best color, ya know? AND fits Dennis to the "T". He really likes it, petsite posted pic where Dennis's clad in full orange as well. Since you check photo thread, you'd seen it. Haha, preach it sister: Beatles = not funny. You're 100% right. The color would be “tangerine” - not orange. It was very popular. Dennis could have worn a potato sack and have been hot.

It may have been called "tangerine" back then but it's orange all right.

It may have been called "tangerine" back then but it's orange all right. Tangerine has a little extra je ne sais quoi. ⛵️ It is richer and deeper in terms of hue...
