As the title says, tell us about your fave comps and mix tapes. If you've got any good ones to share, like a genre playlist or alternate album sequences or a collection of your fave songs from a band...feel free to post the track orders.
As I've said elsewhere, the first and second Greatest Hits comps "20 (More) Good Vibrations" of the Beach Boys are what made me a fan, and I have a lot of nostalgia for them.
The Beatles Red Album along with Abbey Road were my first two introductions to the Beatles. I feel like Disc 2 could have used better cuts from Revolver though.
The Carpenters: The Singles 1969-1973 is my all-time fave comp. I wrote about it a bit on my blog, but essentially I consider it an album in all but name. The songs flow together musically and follow a general theme. It's the female counterpoint to Pet Sounds as far as I'm concerned.
The Association's Greatest Hits is fantastic too. It was my introduction to them and I've heard it hundreds of times over the course of my life.
Herb Alpert and the Tijuanna Brass Classics: Vol. 1 is amazing. That was my introduction to Herb and besides Whipped Cream I have yet to own any of their other albums.
As I've mentioned elsewhere, my godmother made me a mixtape when I was something like 3~5 years old. It's at my parents house so I dont have the exact track sequence. But the first side was mostly Disney stuff--When You Wish Upon a Star, Once Upon a Dream, Supercaligragilistic...(sp?), Chim Chimer-ee, I'm Late, Lavender Blue Dilly Dilly, Pretty Irish Girl, Whale of a Tale...some other stuff like that.
The second side was random: Monster Mash, He Plays the Violin (from 1776), Rockin' Robin, Rainbow Connection...and also some then-recent songs like Kiss From a Rose, Baby Baby from Amy Grant, As I Lay Me Down by Sophie Hawkins, I Know What You're Doing by Dionne Farris...etc.
I might bump this thread later on with playlist and alt album sequences or something later. As is, you've seen my SMiLE mixes described elsewhere. There's the White Album alt sequence I came up with. And besides them I just like to pluck Take Thy Stethescope and Walk from Piper at the Gates of Dawn in favor of See Emily Play.
