For years, Brian Wilson and Beach Boys' fans were hoping for an official completion and release of the legendary album, SMiLE. Unfortunately, it never came to be. It wasn't until the 1993 Good Vibrations: Thirty Years Of The Beach Boys boxed set that any purely original SMiLE recordings were released. Then with The SMiLE Sessions Boxed set in 2011, we got the rest.
However, with a little dedication and imagination, an ambitious fan could've assembled their own SMiLE album long before the 1993 boxed set. Yes, many of the SMiLE songs, albeit in different forms, were available for years. It wouldn't have exactly resembled Brian's original vision for SMiLE in late 1966/early 1967 - whatever that was! But it would've been a very creative, high diverse, extremely entertaining compilation. It would take a diehard fan, meaning one who had most of the albums from 1967-71, and it would've taken some creative sequencing. It might've looked something like this:
The Beach Boys - SMiLE - Total Time: 32:08
Side 1
01 Our Prayer (from 20/20)
02 Heroes And Villains (from Smiley Smile)
03 Good Vibrations (from Smiley Smile)

05 Wonderful (from Smiley Smile)
06 Mama Says (from Wild Honey)

08 Wind Chimes (from Smiley Smile)
09 Fall Breaks And Back To Winter (from Smiley Smile)

or
The Beach Boys - SMiLE (Alternate Mix) - Total Time: 35:37
Side 1
01 You're Welcome (B-Side of Heroes And Villains)
02 Heroes And Villains (from Smiley Smile)
03 Good Vibrations (from Smiley Smile)
04 Cabin Essence (from 20/20)
05 Wonderful (from Smiley Smile)
06 Mama Says (from Wild Honey)
Side 2
07 Vegetables (from Smiley Smile)
08 Wind Chimes (from Smiley Smile)
09 Fall Breaks And Back To Winter (from Smiley Smile)
10 Cool, Cool Water (from Sunflower)

- You could substitute the shorter 45 version of "Cool, Cool Water" in place of the Sunflower version. It actually fits better in the mix.
