Goodness knows, I love Van Dyke, but the guy has proven to be something of an unreliable narrator through the years. I love Van Dyke anyway. Goodness knows where we would be if we held every little word said over the years against the greatness of the music. It's the music that matters most. Just last Saturday I played Harpers Bizarre's second album, the one with "High Coin", then followed that with the wonderful Arrangements Volume I.
I keep hoping for a volume II. Van Dyke will always be cool to me.

Brian playing the Bridge School benefit Although Brian acknowledging the 'crippled kids' was a tad cringeworthy!

A very perfect warm and breezy day today. I'm going to crank up the system, go over to the big chair right now and play Orange Crate Art.

There are several "Cool" things that the guys have done...
One that comes to mind, even though I think STARS AND STRIPES is pretty lame, is the version of "The Warmth of the Sun" with Willie Nelson, and the band singing the backings. This is one of the few tracks on the album that still stands up. And i just love in the video about the album, where Mike is trying to teach Willie how to sing the song, and explaining the phrasing. Mike is a complete fool, and I think Willie says something (or said something later) like, "I thought you brought me in for
my phrasing!" I also have always found, as another fan told me, that "Alan Boyd really did such a great film to polish such a turd of an album".
I also think it's great that Bob Dylan got together and recorded a line or two of the vocals for "The Spirit of Rock and Roll" with Brian at the W.Pico Blvd Studio, that Brian had in the Dr. Landy days. I've always thought the song was a bit of a throwaway....but then again....imagine the conversation between Bob and Brian....Wouldn't
you like to have been a fly on the wall!! Bob: Hey Brian...nnnnnnnnnnnaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh Brian: Hey Bob...there's a lot of love it in...right?
And someone mentioned Bruce always adjusting his microphone on stage. God...this has always driven me crazy.....does it endlessly during the show. I'm guessing that's it's like having a nervous tick or something. Maybe it's Bruce's way of comforting himself from stage fright....I wonder if he's even conscious that he's doing it!!
And the one thing that I still think is fairly cool is having Ringo play with them in Washington D.C. and playing "Back in the USSR"...What the fuck? Playing
a song about the Soviet Union, at a Birthday Party for the USA?? That's always made me laugh and cringe!! So inappropriate. But when you think about it? What other Beatles' song would've been appropriate on that day? "Dizzy Miss Lizzy" or "Twist And Shout"...they did do "Rock and Roll Music" on that show, but Ringo wasn't on the Drums, I believe.

The Brian and Keith shot apparently comes from moon’s birthday party on August 23 1974 Ian--
You're absolutey right. Brian, as the photo shows, showed up in a bathrobe!! Can't remember the restaurant....but I'm sure it's written down somewhere!
Keith was living on the Beach in Los Angeles for about a year or so, and the parties were endless. A lot has been documented about this time in Keith's life,
and Brian frequented Keith's house many times and hung out with Harry Nilsson, Mickey Dolenz and a host of others!!
