I like psychedelia, and that doesn't always have to mean psych rock. So in this thread, share some far-out scenes from movies/TV, or paintings or whatever else.
This first one was from one of my favorite cartoons growing up. I very distinctly remember watching the first airing of it at my grandma's house with some of my cousins when we were all single-digits. At the time, obviously, I knew nothing of the counterculture or Woodstock. But the flashing title card of this episode (as opposed to static) plus this beautiful music video left a huge impression on me nevertheless. I don't think it pushed me to be predisposed to psychs, but considering how I turned out it's fun to look back on that memory.
This scene from Mad Men is another one of my favorites because it's so understated. Instead of crazy colors and bugs bunny coming out of the ceiling to tell you the meaning of life, it's very subtle but accurately depicted effects (looking in the mirror, obsessing over mundane objects, time dilation.) Plus, gotta love that they used a deep cut of Pet Sounds as opposed to something more obvious like I Am the Walrus or White Rabbit (as much as I love that song.)
One of the most beuatiful, insane, inspired short films of all-time. It's an anti-drug PSA that somehow manages to be an acid trip at the exact same time. I love the stylized art style--I've never seen anything like it before. My girlfriend, who's also a fan of the Alice books, said this was her favorite adaptation of the source material.

These deserve a mention too. In that show Evangelion I mentioned in another thread, the main characters have several mental breakdowns/"mind rape" scenes where they're forced to confront their worst fears, insecurities and bad memories. Anyone who's ever had a "bad trip," or even just an uncomfortably personal moment in a good one, knows what this is like.
Out of the two, I give the edge to this one. Partly because I find Asuka to be a more interesting character, and partly because I love the repeated phrases just wearing down her mental defenses. This is an aspect of the psychedelic experience you also don't see alluded to in media that often.

Those are hard to watch, particularly #2. I can't speak from experience but I've learned just enough about psychedelics and the psychedelic experience to understand where you're coming from. The last time you began this topic (at PSF) I was immediately reminded of this bizarre cartoon episode from Zappa's 200 Motels: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/200_MotelsYes. There's another one from the show that I've seen thus far (Im on episode 22 of 26...plus some movies) which involved Shinjii (the boy) seeing all the women in his life asking him to become one with them, and as I recall the people at the control panels monitoring his vitals say something like "he's losing control of his ego!" (ie ego death.) Even though these mental breakdowns in the show are induced by demons tapping into their minds as opposed to drugs, they're still some of the best depictions of ego death (the nirvana and horrifying varieties) I've ever seen. To make it an even seven contributions for me, here's a music video for the American Metaphysical Circus. To this day I have no clue where the animation is from or if they did anything else. And a scene from Bojack Horseman. There's another one where he himself has a hallucinogenic experience but I prefer this one more.
