Motley Crue have reunited to record the title track for their upcoming movie. The song is decent, except for the Machine Gun Kelly portion which is terrible and juvenile (even by Crue standards). However, they could've just as easily used the autobiographical, and far superior, Saints of Los Angeles song.

Pretty pedestrian tune. The refrain doesn't really sound like Motley; the verse does, but not like a good version of them. Sounds to me like a throwaway that got resurrected and appended.
That is a band that really just wore out for me. Early Crue was energetic and great. Girls Girls Girls and Dr. Feelgood were polished and loaded with hits. After that, I just never got the point. I'm not sure they knew why they existed after that, either, aside from raking in cash from touring.

I agree that after Dr. Feelgood, their output was extremely patchy. The less said about the s/t John Corabi lead album, the better. The reunion album, Generation Swine, might've been even worse. On those two albums, they made the classic mistake of 80s hard rock bands, they tried to sound like 90s alternative bands. Their New Tattoo album in 2000, with Randy Castillo on drums, was decent. The two new tracks they did for Red, White, and Crue in 2004 were pretty bad. I think their 2008 Saints of Los Angeles album was very good though. I think this Dirt song could've been really good, but it's just OK, and the Machine Gun Kelly bit renders the middle section unlistenable.

The Hold Steady released another single, "The Last Time That She Talked To Me." They haven't released an album about five years, but in the past year or two they have released half a dozen or so singles. And I have to say, the singles are better than anything they did on their last few albums. I know they lost their keyboard player Franz Nicolay before the last two albums, and I thought that really hurt them. He is back in the fold for the singles.
I also like that they are making use of background singers and horns in the more recent material. Especially considering how bad a singer Craig Finn is, I think that kind of decoration is essential to their sound. Otherwise it's just a couple guitars over a sing-speaker. Nobody needs that.
This single isn't anywhere near their best, but it's OK. Especially the refrain with the horns.

Robert Forster's "Inferno (Brisbane in Summer)" is really great, like a lighter, tighter VU.
When I saw a review of his new album, it was the first time I'd ever heard of him. I have vague recollections of seeing the name of his apparently classic former band, the Go-Betweens, but no knowledge of or experience with them at all.
