There's a Jazz thread, a Soul thread and a Tamla Motown thread but nothing for Blues and Rhythm & Blues (not to be confused with R&B), so here we are.
Let's start with a study in contrasts. First, a track by Juke Boy Bonner, from an EP my brother used to own (and maybe still does). "My Time To Go" features what is clearly a slowed-down guitar part...
John Lee Hooker does the exact opposite. "Walkin' The Boogie" also includes some infectious, often echo-drenched stamping and double-tracked vocals from Mr Hooker:

Here are two superb examples of the mandolin played as a blues instrument, first Rory Gallagher with "Going To My Hometown"...
