I feel weird starting a whole thread for this because I don't think this'll merit a ton of discussion, but i felt it was worth bringing up. The Mrs. and I saw a play in a small theater that's literally just downstairs and a left turn for us. The play is called Wipeout by Aura Real de Asua. The playwright grew up loving to surf in California. The show has a small cast -- literally just four characters: three elderly women in northern California who decide to take a surf lesson, and a young surfing instructor. In addition to twangy guitar instrumentals as Duane Eddy's "Rebel Rouser," Dick Dale's "Shake N' Stomp," and Link Wray's "Rumble," the pre-show music included "The Rocking Surfer" and "Surf Jam." (both stereo mixes) The chorus of "Surfin' Safari" played kind of a semi-important part of the womens' mini-adventure, and when the hunky surfing instructor was introduced, he took the stage to the strains of "Stoked." (again, stereo) It's a single-act 90-minute play in which it's mostly just the women having pretty intense conversations with each other; honestly, I think it'd be better as a short story than a play. The program included a glossary of surf terms used in the play and had a very brief (and shockingly accurate) blurb about "Surfin' Safari."
I think the show was debuting in multiple cities in the US at the same time or close to the same time.

Hopefully they didn't include the Beach Boys' version of "Wipeout" with the Fat Boys involved...

Hopefully they didn't include the Beach Boys' version of "Wipeout" with the Fat Boys involved... No version of "Wipeout" was used at all.
