I've been eagerly anticipating the debut of the new two-part documentary about Steve Martin, which finally dropped today on Apple TV. As the first part got underway, I thought, "Hey, that sounds like an outtake of 'Friends.'" A minute later, some tracks from Surf's Up...a bit of Don't Talk... I thought somebody really knows The Beach Boys and went for some deep cuts. The documentary is great, and when the end credits began to roll, lo and behold, the music score is credited to one Darian Sahanaja! Great job, Darian, and I hope it leads to many new adventures for you.

I'd like to see that. I've always liked Steve Martin, ever since I saw him on the first 'Saturday Night Live' episodes.
Famous Steve Martin quote: “Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, when you do criticize him, you'll be a mile away and have his shoes.”

I saw Steve at the Boarding house in San Francisco in 1975, just before he blew up. When the show ended he stood at the door and shook everyone's hand as they left. Needless to say it was a great show.

Was Dean Torrence mentioned at all in the movie? I know he played a role in helping Steve early in his career, and designed several album covers for him.

I just watched both parts, and it's a great documentary. Not being a huge Steve Martin fan, this really explained his early style of comedy that I can appreciate a lot more now. Darian is all over on part 1 of the documentary, and there are parts where there several musical segments with a 'wall of Darian's' and you can hear it's straight out of the BW 66/67' Smile period arrangements. Some parts you think it's Brian's work then you realize it's a rewrite and done quite nicely by Darian. Would be lovely to hear these pieces without the commentary on top and just hear the fragments themselves. Nice work Darian! Certainly worth checking out. nater No, no mention of Dean Torrence.

I also noticed early on some samples from Wondermints' "Ride."
