I read somewhere that Brian Wilson composed the Pet Sounds track with the James Bond Thunderball movie in mind. I wondered what that would have been like, so I downloaded the song and edited it with the original trailer. First time editing videos/,used so it’s not the best. But I do think the song fits so well with the vibe of the trailer. Do let me know your thoughts if you have a chance to watch it Vimeo linked below vimeo.com/923582452?share=copy

Some nifty editing there, with some lovely convergences between visuals and music. And, it stands up very well to repeated viewings!

I see Will/P.P. brought up the subject of exotica in the Shoutbox. No disrespect to him, but its relation to the "Pet Sounds" instrumental deserves a more permanent place in the main section. This is probably the most famous example of exotica, Martin Denny's exquisite take on the Les Baxter tune "Quiet Village": Brian refutes all claims that "Pet Sounds" was influenced by "Quiet Village", saying he has never had the chance to listen to the exotic likes of Denny and Baxter. (Odd, considering he was "glued to the radio" during those years.) Still, there's no denying the similarities between the two -- the triplets in the melody, the layers of percussion. Maybe Brian had been exposed to the Denny track, a top five hit in mid 1959, without it registering and/or without knowing who it was. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quiet_Villageen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pet_Sounds_(instrumental)

There was an Eden Ahbez cd issued in 1995 ("Eden's Island") with a photo of Eden sitting somewhere with Brian circa 1966. Eden's music is all exotica/tropicalia, so who knows.

Not sure of the studio (not Western I think - Columbia?), and I've always thought Brian's expression was kinda "who is this wierdo?"

Pretty certain that is indeed Western.
