Here is a question that maybe you can find an answer to. When Steve Hoffman did the ENDLESS SUMMER CD for DCC in 1994, he did a mono remix of ALL SUMMER LONG. When asked why he did it, this was his response:
Well, not for kicks. Give me some credit!
The stereo master is fake duophonic, the mono master had a big flaw in it, and the safety sounded terrible.
I duplicated the "sound" of the original version, even down to the Universal Audio EQ (1k) that Chuck Britz added to the mix. I didn't have the heart to use quite as much compression as he did though, so it's only 1/2 as squashed as the original.
The question I have is whether any of this is true. The mono version was on the 1989,1990, 2001 and 2012 CD releases, as well as the 1993 box and the 1999 20 MORE GOOD VIBRATIONS collection. No mention of any issues. Do you all have any info or contacts you can find out about this?

It was quite awhile ago that I listened to the All Summer Long album in its entirety, but The Japanese Past Masters CD is my favorite mono stereo version with a nice flat EQ without processing. Didn't Linett remix "Drive-In" and "Don’t Back Down" for the 2012 mono releases because they were screwed up? What's the best complete stereo version of the album to date, or do we have to piece it together with stereo tracks to make a complete CD? Here's a great synopsis of the album, complete with the "Don't Break Down" album cover mistake. And I still haven't heard the extended (3:06) version of "Our Favorite Recording Sessions". Has anybody here heard it? www.friktech.com/bb/ST2110Pressings.pdf

I've never heard any digital source as well done; he gets the vinyl sound of the records. He has a talent.

Hello friends! This Tuesday Greg and I will dissect The Beach Boys 1964 Album All Summer Long. Hope you’ll join us live on YouTube and Facebook. What are your thoughts on the album? IMO the album encapsulates the early years to perfection. The themes are there, cars, girls, surfing, and Brian’s sophisticated production is already clearly there. IGA, Hushaby,…the vocals, harmony, and the fact the boys played on many of the tracks is icing. The humor of OFRS (even though filler) is part of who these guys were and on this it works. I have two original mono records, on both of them drive in sounds horrible for some reason. It sounds like it’s coming from another room all of a sudden as compared to the rest of the record. Mikie mentioned up thread something about that track being screwed up..?

They were remixed in 2012. forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/beach-boys-drive-in-dont-back-down-mono-mix-screw-up.35236/
