RIP Frank and thank you for your small but not insignificant contribution to the Beach Boys story and sound, 93 is a hell of a good run.

I can't believe the years I spent defending Dennis having played on this, only to be re-educated.... Even now, it still sounds like Dennis' playing to me in so many ways, kudos to Frank and his abilities. One of the great early Beach Boys recordings of all time. It defined the group, the sound, the energy, the vocals.... We still have AM radio in Australia, and it still sounds superb blasting out on a radio too in 2024.

Frank DeVito played drums on Surfin' USA. Frank said he was paid union scale for the session - "a whopping $57". Dennis Wilson had a bad wheel at the time, so Hal sent Frank over to play on the song, and he emulated Dennis' style of play. Here's Frank with original Beach Boy David Marks, who played rhythm guitar on Surfin' USA. Hang in there, Frank! ' Mikie' adds, 'That photo was taken on June 8, 2019 in Burbank Ca. David's caption for the photo read: "The last time we were in the same room together, I was 14 years old and we were recording Surfin’ USA!"

I guess AGD assumes everybody here is familiar with all the names of the Wrecking Crew. I know MOST, but this one, for some reason, didn't immediately come to mind. Appreciate the info.

He was also the drummer on Sam Cooke's "Shake" (fantastic part) and apparently a few Ventures records. Thanks, Frank. Rock on in Valhalla.

He was boss cuz he recorded and toured with The Baja Marimba Band. I loved their records! Yes indeed. Julius Wechter plus assorted session musicians including a few folks well known to us. I remember this one well: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baja_Marimba_Band
