I'll definitely be checking the recording of this one - I love hearing from guys like Arny who provided great support for the band's operations and the perspective they had on how things ran as an organisation!!! Great choice of guest.

Arny was great! (Looking around, I see he produced some interesting records later in his career.) Loved his story about the name Radiant Radish! I couldn't catch the other person's name though -- I think the chatters mentioned "Waddy". Who might that be? Not to forget the munchers on "Vegetables"! And David was brilliant too. Sort of the glue that held the conversation together. Never intrusive, but in there when he was needed. Another great episode, guys.

Waddy Wachtel, perhaps? He had been in a group called Twice Nicely (produced by Curt Boettcher). Those were some mighty fine recordings. He went on to do many great guitar things.

I went back to check -- it was indeed Waddy Wachtel ( at 1:09:20). Looked around for stuff by TN but couldn't find anything. I did find this though,"You're The One" from 1973, with Jim Keltner on drums, Mark Tulin on bass and Stevie N and Lindsey B on background vocals. Very tasty! My, that man can play guitar:

None of the Twice Nicely stuff got released. A friend of mine, who was one of Curt's roommates, made me a "Curt Rarities" cassette. It had four Twice Nicely tracks on it. About 3 or so years ago I met TN band member Robert Munz here on fb. I told him about the songs. He didn't have copies. Neither did Waddy. I sent him the files. He forwarded them to Waddy. The band had recorded a full LP; it was never released. It seems that one side of the LP survives on acetate. The songs I had were not on that disc. TN was a very very good band. The recordings are great.

Found this fascinating ten-year-old interview with Arny/Arnie about his later career (seems there was going to be a Part Two but it never materialized):

I felt it was a little embarrassing, you treated Arny like he was impaired. There was a vibe to the whole thing that was a bit pathetic. You might want to remove the silly hat if you want to be taken seriously

You might want to remove the silly hat if you want to be taken seriously I wear a Beach Boys hat, not sure why that is silly. Arny didn’t have another way to do the interview so it did make it a bit awkward since my brother had to restate the questions. But I’m glad you checked it out and I appreciate your opinion!

That's all it was. I think, given the "impaired" circumstances, you guys did an amazing job, aided and abetted by the wonderful David Beard. Maybe Gerry is referring to Greg's exotic headgear!

Matt, I believe Gerry is talking about Greg's giraffe hat, and I can see his point. Arny lives in my neck of the woods, near the Russian River. Whenever there's a lot of rain here, the river rises, sometimes above the levels of the local roads and main highway. The town of Guerneville flooded again on Monday, and there were evacuations the day before this interview. Not surprised if Arny seemed a little uneasy - it was nice of you guys to accommodate him.
