Many thanks for that fascinating article, Mr Kard. This is the Count Five entry in the 1966 thread daytona was referring to: endlessharmony.boards.net/post/53275/threadYou should be able to read much of Lester Bangs' mind-bending essay on Count Five here, if you're willing to seek it out...

Thank you, jk! Seek it out I did, and glad for having done so. I recall Lester's take on Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music many moons ago. Such possible tangents to explore! But for now I'll simply ask if you're familiar with the cinematic glories of John Waters.
As for Count Five, the raw pragmatism of anecdotes like, "...so we were short a cape" made for enjoyable reading. Glad you liked it.

Glad you liked it. Bangs is one of a kind! Sorry, Mr Kard, but I'm going to have to pass on John Waters. I'm afraid I'm not that much of a film buff -- although the two of us do visit the cinema fairly regularly (the last major shared success being Oppenheimer) and often watch movies on TV. My absolute all-time favourites are Lawrence of Arabia, Inglourious Basterds, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange and Once Upon a Time in the West. Second tier: Alexander Nevsky (the full-length version), The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and Lost in Translation (has to include the complete Matthew's Best Hit TV episode -- hilarious!).

jk, especially given your very fine cinematic list, I can't say you're missing a lot in passing on John Waters. If you ever did happen upon his work, you might find the same brand of humorously iconoclastic rage that Bangs channeled.
