I know most people know about the added line in the second verse of GOOD VIBRATIONS where the words WE FIND we suppose to be there, but Brian cut them off to allow the bass line before the chorus to grab you. Some heard it when Mike's Beach Boys toured after the SMiLE box release. But it was mentioned by Mike in a web episode on the SMiLE box. It's weird, if you search using youtube's search, it doesn't come up. But using google and searching videos, there is it. The link will take you to the point where Mike talks about the lyrics. You can wind back to watch all of the episode. If you haven't seen them before, I suggest pulling up a chair and watching all of them. There is a playlist that has been created.

Remembered discussing this on one of the forums before can someone breaks probably said well if you are going to a blossom world, pretty self-evident that you already found it so no need to repeat. Sometimes I just sing it and add that line just for fun

I always found it odd that nobody had heard a word of that story all those years between 1966 and 2012(?), yet nobody has really questioned if it's actually true or not.

It is true that no one heard of this story until Mike told it. But then, I never heard of these lyrics for I GET AROUND until that storage locker full of Beach Boy items was found.

A fascinating thing about the Beach Boys is how they operated as more of a closed shop compared to, say, the Beatles and the Stones. There are many areas of the group's creative process during the prime years that are simply a question mark because either no one bothered to ask Brian just what he had in mind or he never got around to verbalizing it while it was still fresh. No group equivalent to a McCartney that acts as a verbal documentarian, though it would have been interesting to hear what Carl would have said about the Archival releases given that he was the closest to Brian's process during the functional years.

Mark Linett asked Brian back in the 90s if the version of LITTLE SAINT NICK sung to the track of DRIVE-IN was the original version of LITTLE SAINT NICK. Brian said no it wasn't, that the released version of LSN was the originally written song. When asked why it was recut to the track for DRIVE-IN, Brian wouldn't answer. So it's tough to get a complete picture. Carl would have known the answer to this and many more questions. And I suspect the door is closing on getting answers now.

Somehow the track used, made the LSN "pop." The verse might have worked interchangeably but not to have that voltage that LSN has as released. The Drive-In version drags (but works with its lyrics and subject matter) while the LSN single version soars I think. Maybe Al or Mike would recall?

View AttachmentOne time I read a post from Bruce Johnston on the Beach Boys Britain Message Board. He said that there was originally an acapella intro to I Get Around. Don't know whether he was full of bologna or not but I think he was serious.

I love this board, but geez, like so many other threads, it only took you guys four posts to get completely off the subject. Ah yes, we do love our tangents. Anyway, to get back to the subject at hand, I suppose it's a question of liking what you are used to hearing, but I think leaving off the words "we find" actually enhanced the Good Vibrations lyrics. Somehow, having that line end on "blossom world" made the lyrics sound more like poetry, and perhaps even more psychedelic. And Brian was right. Leaving those words out does call more attention to the great bass line.

The bass line is pretty audible regardless, which is pretty surprising considering that it s mostly inaudible (at least o my ear) in most sixties songs.

But during those specific two (?) measures, I think that particular bass run would be less audible if there was a vocal line over it.
