Born Sandra Hurvitz, April 23rd, 1948.......Died December 11th, 2023
We are losing more and more of the truly great musicians/singers. 😥 REALLY felt this one...listen, if y'all haven't heard it already,to "Thunder In The Morning" from her 1970 masterwork PRIMORDIAL LOVERS album to understand what a brilliant talent she was. One of those musicians who, although a critics' favorite, never got the commercial success her music deserved. Lastly, and honestly NOT trying to sound superficial here, she was, in addition to being a gifted artist, a stunningly beautiful woman. She may be gone, but her music lives.

Both names ring a small bell. The track you mention is not really my type of music, but I shall give the entire album a listen later this evening. There is an "obscure albums" thread (Share Some Obscure Albums That Deserve More Recognition!!) on page three of this section of the forum. You might consider posting something about it there.

Gave the album a try, but regrettably it's not for me. It's always good to bring neglected musical talent out of the shadows, of course. Sorry to hear of her passing.

Thanks for at least giving her music a listen. 👍

I worked with Essra once. We were also fb friends. In about '84 she, my ex-wife, Kim's assistant, David Carr and I spent an evening in a small Hollywood studio putting down piano/vocals for some Kim Fowley demos. Essra sang a ballad of Kim's called Heaven Must Have Sent You To Me. It took here maybe two passes and she absolutely nailed it. Essra was the very best vocalist I ever witnessed live. Kim sold the pubslishing, outright (to Polygram, as I recall), the song should have been shopped; it was a Hit. A few years ago I asked her if she had a copy of "Heaven." She told me that she did quite a number of demos for Kim and that she probably had it - somewhere. She said if she ever located it, she would send me a copy. That never happened. She was a gracious person. RIP, Essra.

She was another one of those musicians from the late 60s/early 70s whose albums got "lost in the shuffle" of all the avalanche of other great works by other artists.
