I just received mine in the mail.
The M.I.U album is one of my favorites, so I was glad to see it featured. I can relate to Mike’s frustration with the substance use of those directly impacting his environment. He was trying to help them back in 1978. The Geraldo exposé on Willowbrook was in 1972, and that place was not shut down until 1988. Support for the families of addicts would not be a thing for decades. The prevailing social attitude that real men could somehow magically sort themselves out was still prevalent. For him to have thought up a plan to help his family, while also enabling them to save face, is touching.

Thank you for delving into the history of the M.I.U. project, and the other assorted projects from this era.
Many fans dismiss the M.I.U. album, but I have never been one of them. There are many quality songs on this record. "She's Got Rhythm", "Pitter Patter", "Sweet Sunday", "Wontcha Come Out Tonight", etc... Terrific stuff.
I think it was noble of Mike to try in his own way to right the Beach Boys ship and help Brian get healthy by utilizing his knowledge of the benefits of transcendental meditation.
It sounds like all who participated in the creation of the record benefitted from this approach and look back on the experience fondly. I greatly enjoyed learning more about the motivations of Mike and Alan, and reading the recollections of the talented artists who brought this music to life.
It's a very plesant record and is charming in its own unique way. Hopefully this issue encourages fans to revisit the album with a fresh perspective.

M.I.U. is near the bottom of my list - right down there with Love You and 15BO. Hope someday we get an issue devoted to LA (Light Album) and KTSA.

With a cover that looks like an outtake from SIP.

With a cover that looks like an outtake from SIP. And? The description of the issue is there to read. I had Robert Lyn Nelson — the same guy who did the SIP cover — do this. It wasn't exactly what I asked for, and I really wish he hadn't painted a woman's ass front and center. I sent him photos and was hoping for a mural with the group's faces in it. He chose a different direction, and he's the artist. I feel like the ESQ cover missed its mark. Still, that doesn't change the great content inside.

It reminds me of that drawing of The Beach Boys in a beach themed snowglobe.

This is a great issue! Even if a good chunk of the session info is the same it's very interesting! Especially surprised with Come Go With Me and Morning Christmas. Can't wait to see the next issue!

Just started reading my copy and, blimey, it goes into so much depth I'm getting discombobulated! I really enjoy these deeper reads, with fewer, longer features.
Some of those guys have astonishingly good memories. (I note it's nearly always guys, rarely girls… obvious why, in Beach Boy world, but be nice to maybe see Diane and Marilyn, and maybe other women, tapped for reminiscences more in a future issue?)
Keep this up and I might have to play MIU for the first time in a long time!
Thank you, David, and thank you Lee for admin again.

Hoping I don’t offend any women here, but I’ve noticed that girls have incredible memories of clothes people wear. For example, you might read in a music biography written by a rock star’s wife something like “Forty years ago, I first met so-and-so when I was the secretary at the record company and he walked past me on the way to a meeting with the album cover artist. He was wearing a light blue Faherty inlet knit blazer, over a trim fit button down shirt with no tie, with slim straight leg jeans and Allbirds brown sneakers that really caught my eye.”
