VIP Kim Lange from Denmark with surprise guest Probyn Gregory
Hi David, Thanks again. It was such a great pleasure to meet you on Zoom. Very nice talking to you. And what a fantastic surprise to also get to meet Probyn Gregory - not in my wildest dreams... 😄 I didn't know what to expect from a VIP membership. This call alone makes it worth every penny - and the VIP PDF has a lot of very interesting content.
All the best, Kim

Hi,
I've been subscribing for ESQ since the new formula years ago. ESQ like BBstomp was really informative. It aimed a popular fandom. But with the new formula you will have the ones who can afford a VIP subscription and the others. It's a sad situation cos you have to remain popular in the BBworld.
Just a cry from an ol fan.

Not sure I understand what's 'sad,' or what you mean by 'have to remain popular.'

I just want to say that a regular subscription to ESQ was OK and that I can't afford a VIP one. I think ESQ is takin wrong way; that new subscription creates 2 subscriber classes.

I just want to say that a regular subscription to ESQ was OK and that I can't afford a VIP one. I think ESQ is takin wrong way; that new subscription creates 2 subscriber classes. ESQ is a product that they earn, like a job, and it is a job, using work ethic, professional contacts, time and effort. It is a business. That said, they have opened up a 2nd tier where the digital version is a benefit of the hard copy of the magazine which is nice. I'm a bad fan and am not subscribed. There is a professional publication that I subscribe to but only in digital. And, I will sign up in a minute if there is a digital-only tier. At this point, I don't want to have to be in one location, to get the magazine and also I have so much BB stuff that are treasures and we discuss what to do with our BB stuff going forward when we are not here. I'd appreciate a third digital-only tier, as I have with the professional publication. I don't have to wait for it, and I don't have to store it. But I can reference it online from anywhere for the info and can screen shoot pages I have researched. It is like the mostly download category for the music I am in now. But I don't think of it as a 2nd class citizen type thing or any mean-spirited intent, but just another product purchase option. I bet an online only-option might attract more subscribers. Just my 2 cents, if that makes any sense? 🎈

Nothing has changed in regard to ESQ's print editions, as those will continue to deliver great content.

I just want to say that a regular subscription to ESQ was OK and that I can't afford a VIP one. I think ESQ is takin wrong way; that new subscription creates 2 subscriber classes. For $125 you get four issues of ESQ at $31.25 a pop. Each one is filled with over 40 pages of unique content unavailable from any other source. You are also sent a full color digital edition with additional original content. Receiving a Zoom call with David Beard, a special guest, and being shipped a surprise pack of swag is pure icing. The value and quality of the products received is significantly higher than a $125 price point. The average price to access a similar source in my field begins at $250, and goes up from there. Continued ability to access the extra content in the digital edition is a concern. There are a limited number of memberships available. The digital version is a premium that can not be shared, or otherwise exchanged. Should the decision be made that those who subscribed this year will not be allowed to renew our subscriptions next year in order to give others a chance to enjoy the experience, we will have no way to ever access that additional information. As my primary reason for choosing to become a subscriber is access to the content that can not be obtained by any other means, this directly impacts my use of ESQ. To the best of my knowledge, there is no digital edition of ESQ, nor have previous editions been made accessible in digital form. The Beach Boys are America’s Band, and have made significant contributions to American culture. Endless Summer Quarterly is their official publication of record. This publication is thus significant to the preservation of knowledge of American history. If ESQ would be interested in receiving direct grants to fund the digitization of previous issues that they may be made more readily accessible through subscription, or direct sales, it can be arranged.

David, great seeing Jon and his side of things in this interview. I also noticed you showed off your copy of 'Summer In Paradise' on vinyl. Beware of that plastic inner sleeve the LP is in, and whatever you do, do not place it in an area of heat, because I had a copy arrive in the mail, and that inner sleeve totally melted/fermented the vinyl and the record was unplayable!. It appeared melted, noisy, and the effect was irreversible. The record lost it's shine, and looked 'contaminated'. The item was sold as Mint-, but somewhere on it's travel it sat somewhere very hot! It had the same effect as many of those terrible outer PVC plastic covers were in the 70's. Over time with heat the covers can 'gas off' and eventually destroy the vinyl within! If you don't know about that, Google PVC covers and vinyl melting etc etc....... There are too few copies of SIP on vinyl, that losing any copy is a disaster in my book. That one needs 'special attention' for sure. Just throwing my experience out there man!........
