I used to be a regular visitor to Mr Cook's website with suggestions for foreign-language additions and generally to have a fun time. I tried to contact the site recently and got no reply, so maybe Mr Cook has moved on. I don't think it should be left to founder, so here it is in all its exotic glory (there's also an English-language section). I may post a song from it now and again. I recall linking a live version of "God Only Knows" in Esperanto (!), probably at PSF, but regrettably it seems to have done a runner... christophercook.me.uk/beachboys/covers/languages.php

Still in No Life Mode, I went through the list to see which BB songs had the most languages to their name. Two songs tied with nine languages apiece: "Surfin' U.S.A." has versions in Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Romansh and Spanish. "I Get Around" has versions in Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Norwegian, Portuguese and Slovenian.

I've started going through the list to see what's still on YouTube, what's been removed and what's been added. Life being short, I'm limiting myself to the third category. This is Dutch singing star Rob de Nijs ("nice" comes close) and his 1977 cover of Disney Girls (1957), which he rewrites as "De Efteling", about the Dutch fantasy-themed amusement part of that name:

The drummer in my late '80s, early 90s cover band backed de Nijs for a while. And now, a couple more versions of "Disney Girls", a fairly straight take in Norwegian and a more expansive one in Japanese that acknowledges Bruce's Hollywood leanings:

It's the songs with only one entry in the list that intrigue me the most. From 1966, here's a gorgeous take on "Spirit Of America" rendered in Italian by I Jaguars as "Credimi Ti Amo":

Here's a late '80s Spanish cover of "Barbara Ann", the only full-length foreign-language version I could find. Played and sung by Melopea, it's hard to say who influenced it most, The Regents (that sax!) or The Beach Boys. Maybe that's why Mr Cook left it off his list:
