The above-named BB instrumentals were all officially released between those years, which conveniently lets me off the SMiLE hook. I hope I haven't forgotten any. All explanations of choices (up to five) are most welcome!

I love LGAFAW - it does take you to another (peaceful) place (and the trumpet line is great) - probably my favourite track on the album, and I like the track Pet Sounds a lot, but I know some people would expunge them from the album altogether - not me! Of the early surf instrumentals I really like the the 2 Dick Dale covers (Misirlou an old song of course but the Boys were covering his version) - some good energy there. And then there's Bruce's schmaltzfest, which I find very dreamlike (and has a memorable melody).

Like you, I chose the two PS instrumentals (the title track is in my BB top five) and "TNFP" (which I feel starts on a sun-drenched beach somewhere in the South Seas and ends up in the Hollywood Hills with snow falling), plus the extraordinary "Fall Breaks..." and an underlooked early-ish instrumental, "The Rocking Surfer", which goes through an amazing transformation in the last 20 seconds.

Boogie Woodie: A reminder of Brian's frantic piano playing style.
Shut Down Part II: Proves that they could play tight.
Carl's Big Chance: The last extended hurrah to Carl's lead guitar prowess.
Fall Breaks And Back To Winter: Perfectly captures that seasonal transition.
Passing By: In Brian's words "What a trip!"

Misirlou, Honky Tonk, Carl’s Big Chance - they just Rock! The Nearest Faraway Place - a whole ‘nother feel with a dreamy pretty melody.

Carl's Big Chance: The last extended hurrah to Carl's lead guitar prowess. Interesting! I'd place that moment seven years later with Carl's even bigger chance during the magnificent instrumental workout in "Feel Flows". Admittedly, there's only one minute fifteen seconds of it...

Who would have thought it? The much-maligned "Pet Sounds" is leading the pack! Let's see how long it stays there...

I'm largely indifferent to most of the band's instrumental tracks but I guess I would have to go with the two instrumentals found off of 𝑃𝑒𝑡 𝑆𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑑𝑠 for obvious reasons.
Honorable mention goes to the bizarre "Fall Breaks And Back To Winter", especially the ominous remix found off the 𝑆𝑢𝑛𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑒 𝑇𝑜𝑚𝑜𝑟𝑟𝑜𝑤 compilation. Put that version into any psychological thriller and prepare to feel unsettled.
