Cynthia Weil, half of the Mann-Weil writing team at the Brill Building and beyond, died two days ago aged 82. The pair's composition "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" has become synonymous with The Righteous Brothers. Less well known is that the team wrote another for the duo after Hatfield and Medley had left Phil Spector. In 1966, the equally evocative "(You're My) Soul And Inspiration" gave them their second US #1: Rest in peace, Ms Weil, and thank you for being part of the soundtrack of my youth.

I believe Tony Orlando is best known these days for his work with the highly successful band Dawn. I wasn't fond of this Barry Mann-Cynthia Weil outing at the time (1961) but it sounds pretty good today. I'm told "Bless You" was the husband-and-wife team's first hit: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Orlando

The Walker Brothers (John Maus, Scott Engel and Gary Leeds) had to move to the UK for a taste of fame and fortune. The Mann-Weil composition "Love Her" seems to have been the last song the lads recorded back in the States in 1965. It saw Scott taking over from John as lead vocalist and the group moving from upbeat R&B to pop ballads. Produced by Nick Venet and stunningly arranged by Jack Nitzsche, "Love Her" scraped into the UK top twenty. Their next five singles would do better chartwise but musically this beats them all hands down in my view: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Walker_Brothers
