She is simply one of the greatest performers of our era. What a powerful voice! She'll be missed.

From bbc news:
Beach Boys' Brian Wilson: She was one of the greats Brian Wilson, the co-founder of hugely successful US group The Beach Boys, said he was "so sorry" to hear the news.
"I loved Tina and her voice and energy - she was one of the greats," he said.
“River Deep, Mountain High will always be one of my favorite songs.
"And nothing beats her version of Proud Mary. I loved her musical too. Love & Mercy."

For me it’s the memory of her singing Witch Queen of New Orleans in the movie Tommy. Electric!

Wow, that's sad news. Another voice of an era gone. Ehm, John Manning, you meant "Acid Queen", right?

You’re absolutely right, I have an (incorrect) ear worm lyric going round in my head… must watch the film again very soon (it must have been 30+ years) but I don’t recall it being terribly suitable for young kids!

JM, you must be thinking of this gem from a few years earlier: Yes, Ken Russell's Tommy is a stunning if somewhat nightmarish film, despite the budget running out at some point. I recall the "follow-up", Lizstomania, also starring Roger Daltrey and not terribly suitable for young kids either, was just as good but has somehow sunk from view...

Yes indeed I’d somehow conflated one lyric with another melody. Tina wins the duel though. Never heard of Liztomania; must look that up.
