Finally have gotten to hear a bit of the Four Freshmen recordings from the 50s.
I gotta ask anyone who has done this kind of singing. Is it quite as difficult as it sounds? I can't really sing, but when I can even hear a single part, it's very difficult for me to keep it in mind as I listen to the recording of the whole vocal stack.
Who has this kind of skill set these days? Just people who've been through super ear training and vocal training?
Is it normal to be able to hear and track all the vocal parts? I certainly can't.

Hi, RKD. It takes a keen ear, to be sure. I help a chorister friend rehearse her parts by recording them on the piano and often overdubbing other parts so she has a better idea of the overall picture. And yes, it can get very complex at times! Brian back in the day had a formidable ear and could memorize Freshmen stuff and dictate the parts to the other Boys. Now that's pretty unique. Thanks for posting in this fairly deserted corner of the forum -- it's much appreciated! However, if you want answers to even only slightly BB-related questions the main section would serve you better.

I guess I'll just keep listening as I can, and if I can ever stop working, I'll try one of those ear-training courses at the piano...who knows, might help a little...
