Piper remains Pink Floyd's best album in my view, and Syd's finest hour:

I'm in the privileged position of being a handshake away from Syd (assuming Syd shook hands). I was once introduced by a mutual musician colleague to Jack Monck, who played bass in the short-live trio Stars, which comprised Syd on guitar and Twink (John Alder, now Mohammed Abdullah) on drums. If I'm not the only poster in that position (and it's possible), please speak up!

Checking out the heart-warming piece on Syd in the blog in my signature, I was reminded of two unreleased Barrett gems recorded by Pink Floyd, "Scream Thy Last Scream" and "Vegetable Man":

Yes those are extraordinary and pleasure to hear them on that 525 disc release of Pink Floyd a few years ago. I think that was in the early years volume. Just wish that there was a live recording of see Emily play where you could hear the vocals. I think only one exists and the vocals are not recorded or something like that. It's on that album as well. Love that song and even though Pink Floyd later would play Arnold Lane frequently including with David bowie, they never Revisited their first big single.
