So, that George Washington eh? Perhaps if he wants to connect to green voters he should be planting trees, not chopping them down.

Quite like it. I suppose for some who love the tent cities, poop maps and free to steal as long as it is under $950 throughout liberal run cities, just calling people MAGA will make them feel virtuous. Remember that President who warned Germany about being captive to Russian energy? Or is that just thrown down the memory hole?
Good news, there is another one coming:

Is that *three* Beach Boys parodies the Babylon Bee have now presented us with? They clearly state this is a parody of the Beach Boys' version of "California Dreamin'", not the original Mama's And The Papa's version. The video even parodies the oft-forgotten music video the Beach Boys made for their cover. Something tells me that someone working for the Babylon Bee is clearly a fan of the band.

Have you been there lately? I think that creating these parodies continues because people feel that the situation is continuing. I’m not sure the music is forgotten at all but a tool to raise awareness so people don’t look the other way.

I wasn't really commenting on the social commentary of the parodies themselves; was merely noting how they keep using Beach Boys to convey the message. Granted considering how iconic the band is to California it probably isn't all that surprising that the Bee keeps parodying their songs. But I was just merely commenting that someone involved in these parodies must clearly still be a fan of the band. Especially when they could have easily gone with the better known original version of "California Dreamin'" by The Mamas And The Papas instead.

That is interesting, because if it was more authentic they could have used The Mamas and The Papas video (Ed Sullivan?) but the cover version had most of the Mamas and Papas in there. When something like this crops up, I go back to the YouTube commentary and read the comments to get a sense of the impressions that others took away from the videos. The BB version is definitely more exciting and artful.

Are these people who believe being gay is a sin or something?
EDIT
Ok just did the google
‘The Babylon Bee is a conservative Christian news satire website’
Ah ok a quick quote from their EiC ‘ You know, the Christian worldview is that everybody has the opportunity to be saved and we can love everybody.’
Crikey, you don’t need to save me lads.
Also, probably a few places in the Middle East or Russia that share some of your concerns where you can ‘flee’ to if you need to 😅
That was a painfully unfunny watch but you know I’m all for free speech etc.
Bless ‘em.

The Babylon Bee is basically a right-leaning version of The Onion. As a conservative myself I'm actually largely indifferent to them but I don't think their satire is strictly rooted in bible-thumping. They just basically appeal to anyone whose views run right of center.

It does however go some way to explaining the attitudes and beliefs displayed in the content of their parody song which is why I mentioned it as when I read up on them it was very much a ‘ahhhhh ok I understand’ moment.

When I watched the videos, I had already known they were a conservative satire group, but never inquired as to whether there was a religious influence, because that seems irrelevant as to the actual message which is powerful. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it. But, I saw it as strictly attacking the solvable homeless issues (tents everywhere) as well as the non-prosecution of criminals, rendering the streets unsafe and causing thousands to leave the Golden State, and calling attention to that. Their idea of enforcement is parking tickets. They banned surfing during covid dragging surfers out of the water (as though surfers were super spreaders?) so they really need to be parodied by anyone who has the courage to do it. If they open the door to expose this they are doing a great service to the state. The only thing that shocks me is that it was not censored by YouTube. In this case, sunlight is a good disinfectant. And maybe this should be in the politics section since parodies are often in that political genre. 🤷♀️ But my hat is off to the OP for opening up the discussion. 🧢

And to which my discovering of the religious bent of the organisation made sense of why this would bother them. This video is not abysmal (to me) because it has religious content (as you say that doesn’t really register) or because it highlights crime, pollution or homelessness. These are obviously ills in society that need to be remedied. It’s that it puts (at best) the normalising and teaching of gay people in schools and places of worship and potentially (at worst) the fact that there are outwardly gay teachers and clergymen on the same level and the other things in the video. Again I’m straining to be clear here but their religious beliefs or desire to make California safer and healthier don’t bother me one bit. Why would they? The fact that they put outwardly gay teachers and clergymen as other reasons to want to flee California is disgusting. Hope that clears it up, and again, plenty of places in the world where that level of intolerance is the norm for them to ‘flee’ to. The ‘actual message’ you speak of becomes far less powerful when it’s side by side with prejudice and intolerance. I just realised we may be talking about different videos 😂 I’m talking about the second one posted in this thread in case you haven’t seen it 😂🙏

I had forgotten who she was, until you mentioned it and remembered it being in the news. It was not about gender discrimination, but removing the 🇺🇸 and substituting another one to pledge to, and the error-in-judgment by publishing that online.

I think I would be with those guys in fleeing California if that was my kids’ teacher 😂 Thank you for helping explain the detail in that part of the parody. As someone else said earlier in this thread I guess the detail in these parodies is lost on me as I don’t live there. Taken at face value it’s offensive, seeing what they are referencing is eye opening to say the least. But yeah the fact that she is gay is I think neither here or there but wow, I almost couldn’t watch all that news clip I was cringing so bad 😂

You don’t get to make up what you feel like teaching, or what some union tells you what they think should be doing. The job of the union is strictly wages, hours and working conditions. Not curriculum or activism. The Pledge of Allegiance is just universal and I taught (mostly pre-K - if you can only imagine how funny they are when they recite it) and the thought of pulling down that flag, and substituting your personal judgment is so out of bounds it is ridiculous. That she published what she did with the contempt she displayed, was absolutely grounds to be fired. Parody is tricky. Thanks again.

The line ‘and the teachers are gay’ on the surface reads like there is either an issue they have with gay teachers or the teaching about gay adults to kids, especially alongside the other straightforward issues they mention in the song. And without the music video even more so. But yeah, the teacher isn’t taking down the US flag and suggesting kids pledge allegiance to the LGBTQ one because she is gay. She is doing it because she is a f$€#ing idiot 😂😂😂 So yeah, parody is tricky indeed, Randy Newman writes a song about how stupid prejudice is and then gets death threats from short people 😅 Thanks again to you too 🙏

Yeah, the joke about the teacher being gay makes this an extra easy “hell, no” for me.
