Wake The World (Alt.) - Unlike other alt. versions here, I find it inferior to the album version. The group vocal here is decent, but I've got a feeling that the one on the final version captures the feel of the song better. Also, this song is better off short without extended outro. The strings don't really fit.
Nevertheless, it's good to have this alternate version.
3/5.\

The released version works. The recut lead vocals, remix and edits really tightened up the track. My minor complaint about the strings are the triplets after the held chord in the chorus; it makes the part busy and conflict with the lead vocal. There's enough activity in the bass and tuba part already. Listening back, they could have kept the triplets after 'running water.' It's a nice rhythmic lead up to the next part.

Ya - the tubas and horns were kind of a horny version (could not resist) - I do love this release. This is real geek-out time for the hard core fans. What a gift!

I give this version of Wake the World a 5. This version sounds more "finished".

Really like this version. Miss the few absent lyrics, of course, but this mix is wonderfully clear and vibrant. The horn section is wonderful as ever.. I take sbonilla’s point about the strings but it’s still really good to be able to hear every element of the track with such clarity.

I also give this version of Be Here in the Morning a 4. The instrumental is so nicely done. It's a shame it had to be released with wanky vocals.

Be Here In The Morning (Back Track) - It's nice and cozy, but Be Here In The Morning Darling is far better in terms of instrumentals alone.
4/5.

Ooh, only just seen this thread, which means I missed the vote on Be Here in the Mornin'. So I'll belatedly point out that it is one of the very best tracks on the entire compilation and that it achieved something I had previously thought impossible: it made me love Be Here in the Mornin' (my favourite Friends track) even more than I already did. Spellbinding stuff.

Love the banjos. Agree wholeheartedly. They’re exquisite, and this track is so playful and optimistic.

Love this alternate version. The lyrics are so innocent. With this being cut just a month before the arrival of their first child, those lyrics suggest even more than those of the standard version that Brian and Marilyn were expecting a boy rather than a Carnie! Slice o’ Life.

I gave the alternate WAMNAW (oh my, that's the abbreviation? Considering the message of the song I find that hilarious!) a 5. I really love the lyrics in this version, it's very sweet.

I gotta admit I'm not very thrilled with this one. There are a few cool things going on--the guitar is pretty catchy, as are a few of the other instruments--but I don't think the "skating rink" organ is as effective as in Passing By. The vocals are just as odd as the released version.

A 2.
It's nice to have it, but I think it's inferior to the finished version.
