One day, most definitely (I'm more likely to watch this than LPR), but not today. I don't have Disney+ and there's a new Norwegian detective series on TV tonight anyway. Thanks for launching this thread, prof!

Yes in part one mentions The Beach Boys, something about my something about them getting some equipment that The Beatles wanted but I don't remember off hand.
I'm in part 2 and it's absolutely amazing. Some of it is of course tedious but anyone who's ever been in a band knows that sometimes you're sitting around trying to figure out what to play and what the lyrics should be, and if you're the drummer you wait for the guys to figure out the cords and teach them to each other, and somebody gets up and quits the band, then you have to get that person to rejoin the band, then you have to talk to the producers about the show, so a lot of it is this tedious stuff that anyone who's been in a band and really knows.
But this band is The Beatles, and it's sort of like watching Shakespeare And Marlowe sit there and figuring out how to finish A-line that starts to be or not to be.
That is, you see the moment by moment creation of let it be and get back and the long and winding road and and I me, mine and across the the universe and any number of songs. And certainly a couple of things emerged. The Beatles love each other the 4 of them like a group, and when George leaves the 3 of them are completely and absolutely panicked and devastated. Also also The Beatles like the monkeys are unbelievably funny.
I wish we had 50 or 60 hours of The Beach Boys together like this that can be turned into an 8 hour documentary. This is the real stuff and even though part of it can be tedious and you will find yourself screaming at the TV, comma Paul those are not the lyrics,It goes "for some California grass: damn it!! As you watch The Beatles creating songs that we know so well historically!

I wish we had 50 or 60 hours of The Beach Boys together like this that can be turned into an 8 hour documentary. At least we have hours and hours of Beach Boys audio sessions. We have them for most of The Beach Boys 60s albums, whereas for The Beatles, all of this Get Back footage is for the just one month of rehearsals in Jan. 1969. Nothing equivalent to The Beach Boys Sea of Tunes and other complete session tapes has surfaced for The Beatles. One of my favorites is when The Beach Boys are all singing into one mic, and one of them is complaining about another spitting into his mouth. I forget who.

As you watch The Beatles creating songs that we know so well historically! That was also my take on when George stormed out. They were panicked and upset and it was not an act. Did I see tears? The disconnect is the break-up. It left me hanging. It seemed so crazy that they set up Apple and used their studio which they seemed to like much better than the other arrangements, it was an ownership thing and they never seemed to take advantage of their own studio to keep working. That is a mystery to me to go so far, hone their process, and leave it on the table. They had it figured out. There seemed to be such great synergy among them. I was delighted to see them have such fun with the whole process, starting with fragments to the fully developed songs. It was remarkable how their creative efforts worked among them and seeing Ringo at the piano! And, I loved how John really did not take himself seriously with some of the stuff and how he and Paul fed-off-each-others goofiness, such as singing with their teeth clenched. His image is that of being more serious and intense. I really enjoyed seeing that side of the band. The intrigue and the police showing up, listening to the whining businessmen, complaining about the free concert on the roof by the National Treasures of England, was absurd. I love how they held them off. Someone should have alerted the Queen, who might have interceded on their behalf. But, they stalled and pulled most of it off. It was a great binge-watch.

I liked that they seemed to have an ingrained respect for the work-process of the BBs. In real time, who would have known?

Related to this let me ask. How do you listen to an album called let it be? Anything with the spector arrangements is terrible. I've been listening to the so called naked version, which I think is absolutely excellent and is the best way to go. ,
They also just released an extended Deluxe and I've heard some of it. it's the bits and pieces from this documentary in part.
So it's a bit like talking about smile in the sense that you really don't know what is the authoritative thing and you wind up listening to the let it be sessions. I guess the difference is that smile needed grand orchestration and that is its final fulfillment with the wrecking crew and all that lush and Beautiful singing.
But let it be absolutely did not need and did not warrant custom treatment. Especially treatments that were not controlled by the songwriters, in opposition to what happens with The Beach Boys and Brian seeing his vision with studio musicians.
So this documentary takes you as far as the rooftop show but it doesn't deal at all with the completion or non completion of the album.

George on the drums. Paul, as well. It seems that what they wanted was to do this work, live and somewhere were they were not ordinarily allowed to be. Technically, they were allowed to be on their roof, but not permitted to disturb the boredom (the peace.)

It sounded like 4 to 8 track equipment (BBs.) Just shows you I’m not good with numbers… 🙄 There is a review on stereogum - I was looking for those - since I am historically biased and jaded, and the quote from. Paul...”McCartney complains that EMI has only offered them a four-track recording console, ”but I know for a fact that they got eight track out for The Beach Boys.” My BB bias gave me a smirk and a chuckle that there was something in the process that was “leveling the playing field.” Maybe the use of the Wrecking Crew - with that numerosity of musicians who no doubt gossiped, about what kind of tape/recording was used, as opposed to the Fab Four hammering out their stuff, at least for this work. Who knows why the bands were not recording on similar technology and equipment? Would it have happened if the band was in the USA under the local branch of the company if that was the custom in the recording industry in the US? The footage speaks for itself. It made me do a baseline search to see what was going on - beyond the editing, for release and I would suggest that even a wiki baseline, of the breakup, would show some of the intrigue going on behind-the-scenes, that there were a ton of info about which the fans were unaware. The tapes are a goldmine for music students to observe some of their process, wiping all the band politics away, and how they really enjoyed basic rock and roll, Paul’s love for Elvis, and even singing some of the then real-time stuff. I did like that despite not wanting to do a tour which appeared to be a pre-condition, they wanted to perform the work live, for people, and their own roof, fit the bill.

Someone made reference to the fact "The Beach Boys are American" when talking about why they had an 8 track. The discussion was further proof the Beatles were keeping an eye on our Boys, even in the late '60s.

It was the director Michael Lindsey Hogg who made that comment but we don’t get to hear Paul’s response. It’s interesting to hear the Fabs complaining that the BBs are getting some special preference as we know that the BBs resented the treatment Capitol gave to the Beatles

Glyn Johns - comment on the BBs. It is great to hear their perspectives whether they were there, or worked as 2nd gen, such as Giles Martin, George’s son, on the project.
