Are you gonna be there, Hank? Can you do a blow-by-blow live commentary?

I like the fact they did everything to let Brian feel comfortable. Can't wait to see it!

Are you gonna be there, Hank? Can you do a blow-by-blow live commentary? Ah, I wish I could, my friend. Under usual circumstances, I would have made arrangements to sneak in. Alas, some of my past transgressions have come back to haunt me, leaving me for now to find articles such as this. Nothing I don't deserve, as a few here will likely agree. I do hope someone who will attend Tribeca or who otherwise has access to the film will give us all a detailed review.

That's an... interesting article. Given your perspective sir and your knowledge of this great band and irreplaceable man, I am keen for your perspective on the article. I did find it interesting -- perhaps somewhat troubling, but then again, Brian Wilson is capable of being as elusive and clever as he wishes to be.

The main thrust of the article was this: Brian doesn't say much. Hardly anything. Yes. That was my take as well. As a matter of fact, one has the sense that he says almost nothing. How much of that is calculation, and is it meaningful? I don't know. He marches to the beat of his own drum. It will be interesting to see the documentary, mainly to see whether and to what extent he responds to his music. And how he responds.

I’m sure 70 hours is a decent time to get the 10-20 Brianisms that’ll make the movie worthwhile. Don’t care for Springsteen or Dudamel explaining how good Brian is— but that may be a necessity for the casual movie goer. Who knows how long it took J Fine getting the Bri-quotes for his RS interviews.

The filming process sounds very similar to the songwriting process that Joe Thomas has described.

I wonder what the appeal is for Brian in doing these things, particularly given he rarely has much of interest to say these days. One hopes its his choice and he's not pressured into it. If it were me, I'd just give the guy a piano amd some hamburgers and leave him be for the next however many years.

Impossible request for the first reviewer of the film here: give us a list of the songs played while Brian and Jason Fine are cruising around SoCal...

Brian heard Dennis' solo album for the first time during the shooting of this documentary ? Caught that. Find it hard to believe. I could imagine Brian saying he hadn't heard it before.

In Philip Norman's The Road Goes On Forever, published in 1984, Brian recounts hearing POB before it was released, or shortly thereafter.

in the 1977 king biscuit radio interview “a conversation with brian wilson” brian says that he heard the lp being recorded and what he heard was ”FUNKY” and that “dennis wilson’s solo album is going to be a good album”
