Previously, we had a thread with the premise of turning a relative or friend onto the Beach Boys by making them an Mp4 20 track compilation and what essential songs you would include on your comp. This time, let’s turn a friend or relative onto a Beach Boys solo 25 track compilation. What essential solo songs by a Beach Boy would you include on your comp? Here's the breakdown for your lists. You don’t have to have 5 songs from each 10 year span, i.e., maybe you would recommend more than 5 songs from one era. Mix and match the best songs as long as you come up with 25 total: 1. Five songs from 1970 to 1980 (Dennis, Bruce, Mike, Blondie) 2. Five songs from 1980 to 1990 (Carl, Mike, Brian) 3. Five songs from 1990 to 2000 (Brian) 4. Five songs from 2000 to 2010 (Brian, Al) 5. Five songs from 2010 to present (Brian, Mike, Al)

Ah, David, Blondie & Ricky tracks not valid? (I know, including Ricky tracks is much tougher!)
Would struggle with Mike & Bruce inclusions tbh!

Ah, David, Blondie & Ricky tracks not valid? (I know, including Ricky tracks is much tougher!) Duly noted by the OP regarding Blondie in the 70's. And if you have anything in mind by David, I encourage you to include it.

1. Five songs from 1970 to 1980 (Dennis, Bruce, Mike, Blondie): I'm afraid I'd go for an all DW group: Pacific Ocean Blues, River Song, Thoughts of You, Moonshine, Time. An outside shot: Mike with Celebration: Country Pie
2. Five songs from 1980 to 1990 (Carl, Mike, Brian): Much as the production irritates the hell out of me: Melt Away, Rio Grande, Love and Mercy, Meet Me in My Dreams, There's So Many. An outside shot here: Carl: Hurry Love
3. Five songs from 1990 to 2000 (Brian): Orange Crate Art, Wings of a Dove, Cry, Lay Down Burden, This Song Wants to Sleep with You Tonight. Outside shot: Beckley-Lamm-Wilson: Run Don't Walk
4. Five songs from 2000 to 2010 (Brian, Al): BW (not including any BWPS stuff): That Lucky Old Sun/Morning Beat, Live Let Live/That Lucky Old Sun Reprise, Midnight's Another Day/Lucky Old Sun Reprise, The Like in I Love You, Gettin' In Over My Head. Outside shot: What I Really Want for Christmas
5. Five songs from 2010 to present (Brian, Mike, Al): Lookin' Down the Coast (Al), Ram Raj (Mike), Sail Away (Blondie, Al, Brian), California Feelin' (Al), Whatever Happened (Brian and Al). Outside shot: Peace on Earth (Brian)

Tempted to add You and I from David Marks in the 2000-2010 section. Listening to these again, I think There's So Many would make a pretty neat Prefab Sprout song...

If someone asked me that question - I think I would ask them what songs they already know, if they like those songs and why, whether to dance, or just sing along, to find out what their base of information was - to gauge which lead singers they liked and what era they like.
Then, build a list from there. 🎶🏄♂️

Confused about 1970-80, as Mike released no solo material there (I'm not counting Celebration).

The most difficult era to pick 5 from for me was the 70's. I could pick more than 5 from POB alone.

You don’t have to have 5 songs from each 10 year span, i.e., maybe you would recommend more than 5 songs from one era. Mix and match the best songs as long as you come up with 25 total: Thanks for providing this loophole, which I will gladly exploit. Here is my custom-ordered, 25-track playlist. It's not necessarily the all-time best solo tracks -- in which case, certain members of the group wouldn't make the cut. But they're all pretty strong, and together they illustrate the vast musical scope and diversity of all the Beach Boys' work.
NOTE: I left out the superb "Fallin' In Love (aka Lady)" because it has been officially released as a Beach Boys song. And although I toyed with the idea of bending the rules further by including pre-1970 tracks (It's hard to resist "Hot Pastrami, Mashed Potatoes, Come on to Rincon - Yeah!!"), I limited myself to one 60's track from Murry, whom I must admit, was never actually a member of the Beach Boys.
01. River Song - Dennis 02. She Says That She Needs Me - Brian 03. Melt Away - Brian 04. Hold Me - Carl 05. On And On And On - Mike 06. Pacific Ocean Blues - Dennis 07. South American - Brian 08. I Write The Songs - Bruce 09. Woman Don't Cry - Blondie 10. Don't Fight The Sea - Al 11. Wild Situation - Dennis 12. All The Love In Paris - Mike 13. Live Let Live / That Lucky Old Sun (Reprise) - Brian 14. Heaven - Carl 15. Rendezvous - Bruce 16. There's So Many - Brian 17. Ram Raj - Mike 18. Big Wave - Dave 19. Waves of Love 2.0 - Al 20. Midnight's Another Day - Brian 21. What You Do To Me - Carl 22. Southern Nights - Glen 23. Islands In The Sky - Murry 24. Constant Companion - Dennis 25. Love And Mercy (IJWMFTT version) - Brian

Nice one, Mr. Burgerstand! Yeah, there are a few on your list that were viable contenders for mine, including She Says That She Needs Me, South American, Don't Fight The Sea, Heaven, There's So Many, and a couple tracks off of Bambu. Space is limited!
