the fosters freeze in Hawthorne California-'the famous fosters freeze where The Beach Boys dramatically set the great song fun fun fun, has been closed down and is going to move to another location. I was not able to get any more concrete information, but if any of The Beach Boys knew about Foster's free shutting down they should buy it and preserve it for all time. this means that thousands of people from around the world who come to Hawthorne California can now see The Beach Boys monument but cannot get a Burger at the hamburger stand anymore. Is any of you are better researchers and can find a report let me know. But I do have a photo of a sign that says we have moved. It's a hand written sign that says they have moved.

A swift Google comes up with nothing further on the topic, which of course means diddly, really.

According to Google maps, it’s still there and open for business at 11am tomorrow. Maybe I’ll head down there and take a look. I literally grew up merely a few blocks away.

Yes drop by and I'm afraid you're gonna see a sign in the window a hand written sign that says we have moved and i don't remember the location. Those photos are not to hand right now but were sent by some of my students on pilgrimage. But there is no information on whether the site is going to be torn down or bought up and come back later or whether the move is temporary or any of those things right now it's just a shut down place with aging beach boy memorabilia so if you go there take a series of photos of things that he won't be able to photograph ever again. Thanks for stepping up as a local and in fact the professor may take a drive down there himself to day 1624 craven in Torrance is listed as new location. But it also lists another location in Carson so I'm not sure if these are just references to pre existing other fosters freeze and I haven't taken it that far because the goal is not to get ice cream or a Burger but the goal is to preserve that monument itself on Hawthorne boulevard but in any case the sign refers to these other locations I have photos but I don't know how to diminish them in size in order for them to be attached so sorry for that According to Google maps, it’s still there and open for business at 11am tomorrow. Maybe I’ll head down there and take a look. I literally grew up merely a few blocks away.

Just went down there and looks like it’s shuttered. No signs or anything but it’s certainly not open :/

Another original Beach Boys haunt and fan favorite is gone. See the "Fun Facts" section at the bottom (even though the "fact" is not a fact): fostersfreeze.com/about/Scroll to the bottom here and see the map and how close Foster's Freeze was to the Wilson house on W. 119th: fostersfreeze.com/locations/Hawthorne/

Bummer! Enjoyed a burger and milk shake there around a decade ago, after a visit to the Beach Boys monument. Food and milk shake were very good, but the real attraction for me was the historical vibe of hanging out at one of the BBs favorite hamburger stands. Here's a screenshot from Google Maps, dated Oct. 2020. The structural integrity of the right front corner of the roof looks rather tentative.

There’s already one in Torrance apparently, and I think the one by Santa Monica City College is still there.

I like the surfboard theme of the place, but you're right, CM, the corner of the building there is in trouble.
Is the 'Wich Stand' still up on Slauson or no?

My wife and I stopped at that Foster's Freeze in 2016 on the way back to LAX. We got there at the posted opening time, but it wasn't open. Someone in a pickup truck drove into the parking lot, said, "I'll be open in half an hour!," and then drove away. We figured heck, we have time, we'll wait. We read the articles posted on the windows, and then we saw a huge effing rat walk across Hawthorne Boulevard. We figured that was a sign that it was time to go. So we went to In-N-Out and had a great lunch.
And yeah, it's VERY close to where the Wilsons lived. And Jardines. I didn't realize how closely the Jardines lived to the Wilsons. They seriously could probably just yell to each other from their respective homes and have a conversation.

I remember visiting in Summer 2018. I'd made a day of seeing all the iconic locations (Hawthorne monument, old Hawthorne High, Manhattan Beach, etc.) and it was empty, yet peaceful. I do have a photo of it and I didn't realize until I read in here about the roof damage and it was right in front of my face in the picture I took. Never even noticed Didn't eat there since I already ate at a pizza place Brian was said to have eaten at. A very good day overall

Yup. We weren't in Inglewood. (Plus, I had just finished Jim Murphy's book right before we went and I recognized the street name.)

Bruces shorts
Have you ever gone down to the Jan and Dean Room above rubies in surf city at the end of the pier? I never knew there was a sort of a tiki bar upstairs which fortunately doesn't serve much alcohol but only beer and wine flavored drinks I think.....
