Andrew, it is on SOT, you just have to listen to the very, very end of the vocal takes for the boys to cut out and what they taped over comes back.

Haven't listened/watched yet (I have a HUGE backlog of stuff I have to catch up on!), but how did you get BRI to lift their ban? Do you have a license or something? (And if so, are they hiring where you work? ) I found that in one of my videos I have several snippets (just a few seconds) from Beach Boys tunes...BRI has an auto-claim on all of them, understandably, although a couple are misidentified (including a claim of "Little Deuce Coupe," which is NOT in the video at all!). Most of the claims are of the "people can watch, but you can't monetize" variety (understandable), but for some reason the few seconds I have of "We Three Kings" they're saying the video would be entirely unwatchable unless it's muted or trimmed. (Yet videos containing the entire song are somehow A-OK.)

(Yet videos containing the entire song are somehow A-OK.) There was no BRI-copyrighted content whatsoever in the show. The only Beach Boys music was a few seconds barely audible snippet of my band doing "Baby Blue" and a self-recorded verse of the vocals (as I heard them) to "Surfer Girl", which was reviewed in sections to discuss the various vocal parts. Clearly falls under fair use but even if it didn't that would be the publisher's beef, not BRI's. They screwed up, plain and simple. The guilty party contacted me, very apologetic, because they are actually a fan of the show. They had sent the wrong link to the copyright department while they were watching it. To BRI's credit they moved very quickly to fix the mistake.

Just watched it, and if you've not yet, then do so ASAP - it's a great survey of a fine album by someone who Knows His Stuff, aided and abetted by other people who Seriously Know Their Stuff. A question: back in the dim, distant mists of time, I distinctly recall hearing the track for "Our Car Club" with The Honeys singing "rabbit's foot, rabbit's foot" over the fade. Thought it was on SOT but, nope. Anyone care to enlighten me ? Thanks Andrew. At some point during making the show, I heard the whole track with Honeys vocals throughout (backups only), so it must be on the internet somewhere. YouTube?

A mono acetate with the Honeys' full 'Rabbit's Foot' backing vocals over the OCC track was released on the Big Beat comp in 2013.

There's 'leakage' (Rabbits Foooot, Rabbit's foooot) the end of an instrumental or vocal track for "Our Car Club". I don't have the CD's at my disposal now, but did you check "Our Car Club" on "Unsurpassed Masters Vol. 3 Alt. Surfer Girl" album? Or The Big Beat '63? I know I've heard it before but can't remember for sure where it is now.

Thank you, Adam. Another awesome episode. Wonderful to see Joshilyn H getting a namecheck at c. 4:22. One point I would disagree with (at c. 38:40) is that Brian doesn't break into "Big Girls Don't Cry" at the end of "Surfers Rule" but "Walk Like A Man". "BGDC" got the BW treatment the previous time round in "Finders Keepers", particularly in the "lie" of the vocal harmonies when the title is sung... Roll on episode 4!

Yeah, and I edited out a bit where I searched my mind to see if that was the right song, and confirmed it to myself. If I'd realized I was totally wrong, I would have left that bit in because it would have been funny.

Commenter chartstuff000 makes an interesting comparison on YouTube between "Surfer Girl" and Terry Scott's 1961 comedy 45 "My Brother". The first seven notes of the melody are indeed identical.
Coincidence? Of course! There are only so many notes to play around with in a given scale or mode. And no way would Brian have ever heard the Terry Scott song. Anyway, here it is for completeness' sake:
