Here is an interview with the group from 1982 (including Brian).

We turn everything around, shake it, look at it a thousand different ways. Once in a great while, we see something that reminds us of a basic truth.
Through arguments, lawsuits, disharmony and harmony, the Beach Boys are a family, with all its ups and downs. I expect that is the dynamic most misunderstood when fans and critics argue about this or that or take one side or another.
I have always loved that.

I think these interviews were actually filmed in 1980, not '82. Maybe '81 at the latest.

Of course, that is Virginia and Donald Jardine, not Audree and Murry Wilson, at the 6:35 mark. And good to hear Brian clarify they were indeed the Pendletones, not the Pendletons.

A gross error perpetuated by Steven Gaines in his 1986 book. I saw this very late one night in the UK, and recall being fascinated by Brian's fingernails.
