With the right balance between continuity and rest they’ll reach top form; unfortunately the pandemic doesn’t allow for that. Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Maybe a few more shows and Mike and Bruce's voice irregularities will be ironed out. Hopefully.

Now - they plan and tailor the setlist to the venue and the crowd. It is not a spontaneous jam with certain songs. What I observed after C50 was that Brian's band rocked more - and Mike's band became more nuanced with more support musicians for the studio effect that Brian's band had - so whatever people say about C50 - they both learned from each other. They both had takeaways. It all became less spontaneous back in the mid seventies. As for Mike's band becoming more nuanced, that happened in late 2004, post BWPS.

Yes - the mid-70s post Vietnam, and the release of Endless Summer/Spirit of America and their major resurgence and coronation as America's Band. I don't know (or remember) who coined the phrase - "America's Band" but, it certainly stuck. It went to another level, (in my opinion) post C50, with extra percussion, sax and woodwinds. Sorry, I was not clearer. I was thinking of more detailed and consistent smaller percussion, similar to the enhanced (almost scientific) percussion of Brian's band, with Nelson Bragg. And a sax as a consistent member of the touring band. The percussion post C50 made the band sound much fuller. Live - the only real jam, that I have seen, as between the two bands, has been Blondie Chaplin with Brian's band. This guy. And, I knew little about Randy Leago - until I watched him turn a show around with a dead afternoon audience - and get them up on their feet, working section-by-section, of the crowd, in a theater-in-the-round. And, he did it, in about 3 minutes. He is the real deal. www.randyleagowinds.com/www.randyleago.com/

Yesterday in Texas (courtesy of Elora). Looks like Brian "Ike" Eichenberger hasn't lost a step with the falsetto! Mike, on the other hand, seems to be slowing down a little - he's definitely not 100%. Dunno about Bruce either. Cranking them out one after the other - this concert goes as fast as the cars on "Shut Down". Damn, they didn’t play Barbara Ann. This must be the first time in… a long time that it was omitted.

This is the live Beach Boys I enjoy. Witness the driving force of Dennis pushing the band, this is rock and roll!
