Not sure if any of you are familiar with the band The Flamin' Groovies, but they're a pretty good seventies garage-rock turned power-pop band. At any rate, their guitarist Cyril Jordan is Zelig-like mover-and-shaker in the Bruce Johnston vein-- basically he has met everybody at some point or another. I recently purchased a Groovies reissue disc titled Slow Death (Norton Records) and was happily surprised that in addition to all the great music included on the disc that the liner notes were penned by Jordan himself, and instead of the usual artist musings, they actually encompass his version of the band's entire history over 20 pages! His remembrances on meeting Brian are hilarious and well worth sharing here, IMO. (They begin under the HEROES AND VILLAINS subheading)

Love that! Great stories and they generate even more questions – what the heck was happening with VDP?!?! And Dave Edmunds put out some great records, a real talent. Great stuff, many thanks for sharing!

Very telling.

Glad some of you enjoyed this. I'm left wondering if the arrangement of "Johnny B. Goode" Cyril refers to (in C minor) was used when the band cut the tune on October 15, 1979 at Western with Dennis on drums (or on the remake recorded shortly thereafter). This was never one of my more sought-after rarities, but after reading about it I really want to hear it!

Boy, this is a great story, It kind of got me to thinking about what Brian's life was like on a daily basis in the first half of the '70's. Before Landy, "Brian is Back", touring etc. Somebody should compile all of these kind of Brian encounters in a book.
