Irrespective of the final result pending legal shenengians, one thing has clearly emerged from the 2020 presidential election: the current electoral system is no longer fit for purpose, especially in regard to postal votes. That some states are still counting over a week after the polls closed is, frankly, beyond belief.
Thoughts ?

We need to end mail-in voting. Absentee ballots are fine, but we were not prepared for mail-in ballots across all 50 states. Also, every state has different procedures. In some states like Pennsylvania politicians had the local and state courts add days to accept votes. Per the Constitution, only state legislatures have the power to make voting laws, not the courts.

At the very least. There are ways to set up tents in every ward and precinct. They use them for all kinds of events. You can wear a heavy coat. And use non-internet connected voting machines. The machines used to have a lever to open a curtain, close it, and then step into the machine area and pull down a lever for each chosen candidate. After the voting is completed - you pull the lever in the other direction and your secret ballot is in the count. When the end of the voting day arrives - individuals - wait with pen and paper and each candidate's vote is announced from each machine in open view of the people in the room. No tech, low-tech and not connected to the internet, only a power source. Somehow each district was capable of land-line, calling-in the preliminary results to town/city hall for no fewer than hundreds of thousands of votes. No one could insert source code, malware, cookies, etc. There were non-hostile witnesses from both parties, to all of these phone calls, reading off the tallies from each individual machine. Then, the actual machines were re-inspected, centrally for errors. Absentee ballots from senior citizens or nursing/group homes have always posed a problem-source, when some (non-neutral) political operative would come and visit, armed with several dozen boxes of donuts and vats of coffee, and ballots to fill out, for the residents on voting day. It is a dirty little old secret of electioneering. Harvesting absentee (residential care) ballots. If there is mass voting done in nursing/rehab/rest homes, it could be done in a common area - such as a dining or function room under video/audio surveillance. Lots to fix. No one in politics should have any financial interest in any voting machines, software, hardware, nothing. No shady non-profits, either. If need be, it should be overseen by the military of various branches - people from another part of the country, who have no interest in the outcome. Voting is as sacred and fundamental right as the right to associate and worship freely in the US.
