Thanks, jk. Grab a tissue, as Sean Courtney said on FB that the writing is so bad it will make you cry!

Thanks, jk. Grab a tissue, as Sean Courtney said on FB that the writing is so bad it will make you cry! No idea who this person is - but you took a step out of the comfort zone to plumb the depths of what Murry's work looked like. Good for you. Kids become imprinted with what they see and hear at home. And they certainly saw someone who worked at songwriting, so they must have seen marked-up music notation paper, heard him make all sorts of modifications, and constructing a whole song out of the sections that he worked on. I did not know this Nick Venet thing but there is always blowback and reputation damage when you compete in a power structure. He must have felt threatened by Murry or insulted, on some level. The time sequence you present suggests that it was retaliatory in nature. If Murry did know how to navigate the mine fields - it did put the band in a better position in an extremely competitive market. Don't listen to the critics. You took on a difficult character to try "gave the devil his due." Bravo.

Thanks a lot. I let a few facts squeak out over the years, but this is the full set of findings. Took awhile to get here. My work is done! I've shared a ton of data with BB author Jim Murphy, so maybe he will find a way to find more to tell about the Murry story someday in the future.
I am still in possession of the Hail to the Legion sheet music and may continue to try to validate it, but I spent a lot of time on it already and remain unconvinced it's the correct Murry. If you look at the cover of the sheet music though, it was 'endorsed' by a Los Angeles bandleader. I was tempted, but each song was expensive to produce and I was already sticking my neck out on the validity of two other songs.
But, most importantly, a project that I started about 20 years ago has finally been completed. I started it before the internet was developed enough to assist, and quit. Then, I tried again ten years later and hit a million dead ends and quit again. Now, with an internet that is in full blossom, I was able to see it through. LA DJ (and Mellow Cad) David Ponak gifted me a set of sheet music to Two Step, Side Step in the 90s. I looked at that and thought 'holy crap, Murry did more than instrumentals.' Now I have 11 vocal tracks of his, on what is only the second full-length LP of his work. A weird project, yes, but I am proud of it. Hopefully, people like it.

I couldn’t resist; have bitten. Can’t wait to listen to this.
Many congratulations on bringing the project to fruition; am sure Murry would be delighted and I bet BW will be blown away!

Thanks, jk. Grab a tissue, as Sean Courtney said on FB that the writing is so bad it will make you cry! SC, whoever that may be, can take a running jump. I thought it was a great read. I echo John Manning's sentiments re Murry and Brian. Don't forget to let us know what the Big Guy has to say about it. That's some sterling work you've done there, GF -- proficiat! PS: It would be wonderful to learn that this gem sung by Ginger is indeed a Murry Wilson composition: I remember grappling with the lyrics of "I Know It's Gonna Be Alright" at PSF, aided by others. I must try again sometime...

I alluded to it in the essay, but I wonder how much Murry material was lost in the 'warehouse' find/auction. I hold on to hope that the family (his executors) still have some of his songs in storage, but who knows. I got no reply from Justyn, and Dan Rutherford was kind enough to return my email, but did not follow through with any info or leads. I'll bet Marilyn knows plenty about "I Know It's Gonna Be Alright"
